Just remember, NO place is safe from someone who is determined to do the crime!

Shocking, just shocking. I have to go around town from time to time, used to take short cuts down baily ave, terry road, capital etc. No More. Take the long way round. Glad we don't have offices like across from the Zoo. I take great comfort in never reading about the phone man being shot.

Isn't it funny how a sign that is supposed to make you feel safe just makes you afraid. GFZ= bull

Story has been updated.
The robber shot her twice in head
JSU faculty member recovers from on campus shooting

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Jackson State researcher is in fair condition Tuesday night after she was shot on campus last night in an apparent robbery attempt.

36-year-old Andrea Michalkova Scott was shot twice shortly after 6 p.m. outside the John A. People's science building.

Her husband Bill Scott tells WLBT news she was shot twice in the back of the head during the attack.

Scott was doing post-graduate work in Jackson State's chemistry department. She is a native of Slovakia and arrived in the US in 2002.

Bill Scott says one bullet shattered her cheekbone, but she is still able to speak.

Scott told investigators she was approached by a man who demanded her money as she left the chemistry lab.

After she gave him five dollars, the man demanded her purse. Scott was then beaten in the head with a gun, and shot twice. She said the shooter was with two other men. All fled after the shooting.

A good Samaritan found Andrea Scott and called police.

Students on Jackson State's campus say this latest incident has raised concerns about safety, especially at night.

Jackson state Interim Police Chief Tyrone Kidd told reporters the campus has beefed up police patrols in the area where the attack happened.

Andrea Scott described her attacker as a black male in his mid 20's. He was wearing a brown skull cap and a blue jacket. So far no arrests have been made in this case.

Jackson State police do offer an escort service for faculty leaving at night, but Scott did not use it.

Bunch of us kids used to walk down the creek (about 4 miles) and it went right by JSU. Used to know a Colonel in Marines that got his degree from there, think to go from enlisted to officer. Hadn't seen him in 20 years and he'd put in his time before then. He was a fitness instructor so he felt safe then, but fist fights and a bloody nose to settle things is way, way past.

JSU researcher shot on campus tells her story

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - It started as a typical Monday night for Andrea Scott. On February 1st the 36-year-old left work at Jackson State University's John A. People's science building. It was raining and cold.

"I was rushing to my car, trying to get there as fast as I could that I wouldn't get wet," said Scott.

That's when she was approached by three men. One was armed with a gun. "He just say give me the money and I said ok I'll give you the money. I'll give you the money. Then they were mad it was only $5," said Scott.

The robbers hit her repeatedly in the head then fired two shots. "I don't remember the pain. I remember just lying there and I couldn't move. I couldn't see anything, but I know I was still alive," said Scott.

Scott tried to get help, but she could hardly stand. That is when JSU student Lemarc Humphrey found her.

"When I fell down the second time he was approaching me and asked if I need help and I said yes," said Scott.

He got Scott out of the rain, called the police and called her husband. "He's my hero. He'll always be. I owe him my life without him I don't think I would be sitting here," said Scott.

She has lost most hearing in her left ear. One bullet is still lodged in her neck. Pain is constant.

"It was absolutely awful what they did that I don't understand that kind of behavior. There was much better ways to live," said Scott.

Jackson Police are helping Jackson State Campus Police with the investigation. So far, no arrests have been made, but Scott has hope the three men will be brought to justice.

"I hope they catch them soon and they won't ever be able to do anything bad again. I hope that they never hurt anybody else," said Scott.

Andrea Scott said she plans to return to her job at Jackson State University as long as security improves.

This reminds me of when I was in my second year at LSU. 2 young adults were walking to their car on Seigan lane after work, and got murdered because the robbers didnt think they had enough money. Now what do the democrats have to say about that behavior? In the same parking lot an 88 year old man was nearly beaten to death when robbed. Mad No need for guns aye...

I know this is a slightly older thread, but I'd thought I'd state the fact that I'm a current student at JSU. This happened right outside of my Biology building. I've stood countless times in the same spot she was attacked and shot . It pisses me off that this stuff happens. You should be allowed to carry at JSU. It's not the students that are a problem, it's the people that look like students hanging out there scoping out indiviuals. The capus has a joke security force IMO.

On a side note, I wonder if it's illegal to shoot into a gun free zone lol. If I would've had my M200 with me, I could've taken the bas***d out from a safe, legal, felony escaping distance JK
