Next mods for the 870

Post by Milktasd on Sat Mar 23, 2013 9:19 pm

So I bought a 870 tactical from a buddy and put about 50-60 rounds through it in an afternoon and have decided I need a few upgrades. First and foremost, limb saver!! This gun feels like it hits harder than some of the other shotguns I have shot. And since I might do some amateur 3 gun figured I would add a Mesa tactical 6 round shell carrier. Also thinking of adding a red dot just for fun.

Any opinions? Other recommendations?

If you were using it as a home defense gun I would say leave it "as is" and be happy. I would be interested in the what folks say for a red dot that can handle shotgun recoil though so I'm subscribing.

Look at the new Magpul stock and forend. A little homely but supposedly pretty sweet! I'm waiting on them to come out for the Mossies.

Glad to hear it!

I've yet to see or hear any bad reviews on them by people who have ACTUALLY owned and used them. Little futuristic and homely, but its from Magpul so how bad could it be?

I have an 870 Express Magnum I'm redoing. I may go the Magpul route.

I put a collapsible stock and flashlight on mine. Other than that it's stock.

I put a TruGlo dual color dot ($75) on my 870 using a Aimtech rail receiver mount ($36). I really like it.

ATI stock, pistol grip is very comfortable,5 rounds ext. black aces tactical rail, took 7.5 inches off barrel. Still good pattern, little heavy up front but holds down the recoil. With a shotgun who needs a scope.

I have an 870 Express 12 guage that I added a 5 round Choate mag extension to along with a "tactical" choke tube - has the agressive end - makes for one long, high capacity (8 shells) assault shotty lol

Seriously, don't hand a bunch of tactical junk on a home defense shotgun. All you really need is a magazine extention and a light.

This will mainly be for an amateur 3 gun, so just playing around with ideas. About to convert it to a bullpup and see how I like it.

870 HD Fotos

Post by Scharfschütze on Wed Mar 27, 2013 9:15 pm

I understand...not directed at you alone but also at others also posting about their 870s. I'll start:
870 Express Magnum, Blackhawk collapsible stock, Wilson Combat magazine extension, 18" IC barrel mfg. by Mossberg for Remington. VOODOO Shotgun sheath for MOLLE attachment to various packs such as the ILBE offered elsewhere here by DeepSouth.

I also have a smoothbore slug barrel with rifle sights by Remington.

I use the bead sight barrel when I carry it in the sheath, the Remington rifle sighted barrel hangs up in the sheath. Most of the time I have the rifle sight barrel on the gun; I find the white outline sights on this barrel very fast to acquire. Even though it is a smooth bore barrel it can put 3 Brenneke slugs into a one (big) ragged hole at 50 yds.

CHOATE link works fine, for the usgunowners link you have to be a member (which I am) so some might not be able to see it.
Those rifle sights are very fast to acquire, I have even shot trap with it.

Re: Next mods for the 870

Post by Milktasd on Sat Apr 13, 2013 4:47 pm

Well, it's been a minute since I started this here is where I am now. I had sent my 870 to gunsmith for a "tune up" and for my bday my friend gave it a trigger job and a rail for an optic. Now it was too nice to hack up and convert to a bullpup. So I started looking for another 870 tactical, found one, and this is what happened.

Going to test them both out tomorrow. Can't wait.

That's the kit. Fresh out of the box, feels iffy. As soon as your assemble it, which is pretty easy, it feels good and tight. And this rain is going to keep me from testing it out. Sad

Well give us a good update on it. Hopefully picking up a 870 for a steal this afternoon and was eyeing this.

Well I wanted a keltec ksg, but, of course, they can't be found or if you can they are $2000. So I did some looking for any other "cheap" bullpup shotguns and this is what I came up with.
