Gotta love blue

Post by Xd357 on Wed Feb 03, 2010 11:25 pm

I set up my 550 and started loading some .45 for necks shootem-up sat and thought I would see how long it took me to load 100 rounds. Well it took me 13:15 to load 100. That's a load rate of 452.8/hr. Guess it's kinda fitting for the .45. This is still looking at every case for powder. I thought I was kicking it and still didn't reach the supposed abiltly of the press (550). I do love loading for .45 b/c I don't have to pull each case off to see if there's powder in it like I do with .38spl. I need to get me one of those lights that shines through the middle hole in the shell plate. That might help with the .38's.

yep!! NO BLUE!! Sorta of 'ol school here ... Really I do not load a "ton" of anything at once, and being retired, time is really not a problem. I love to just "play around" with reloading. For the past years, casting and working on cast boolit loads for all my rifle calibers have been my quest. Don't really need a "Blue" for that! However, even with all that said, it is probably getting time for me to progress ......

Yep The 550 is a great machine.
I picked one up in a trade the other day, to add to the collection.

i have a 550 and loading .40S&Ws i was wondering how fast i could throw 100 of them together. Seems i could average 5 minutes and 50 seconds.

On one set of 100 i did in 5:30 but one of them was missing a primer so i couldnt count that batch No

Id load 100 and drop another tube of primers in and load another 100. so if i could keep up the smooth pace i could prolly shell out 1000 in roughly 70-80 minutes.

i have several primer tubes that i keep loaded so it dont take all that long.

Im goin to have to try to time .223s and see how long it takes for a 100 of them babys.. prolly 20 minutes lol

Retired here but still don't want to spend alot of time reloading. Usually can do about 300 30-06's before needing a smoke break, ahhh I mean Dr Pepper. Never tried to see how fast and won't as I'll take Dillon's word for what it could do.

Not to sure, id have to sit down and see. Ha. I always put the bullets and brass on terry towels so they wont roll away when i go to pick them up.
I pick up the bullet when im pulling the handle and place the brass on the roundabout while im puttin the bullet on the caseing. Always checking for a primer. Well some times. Its better to skip a primer than the powder. Very Happy

good for you it's not that hard. You don't need .44 spl/.44mag dies and shell plate do you? If so pm me.
