Remington 870 tactical rusting problems

Post by ruger10 on Wed Feb 10, 2010 1:01 pm

I purchased a Remington 870 tactical about a year ago. It seems I have a problem with it now. The gun came with a hammered powder coat finish. The gun is rusting under the finish it looks like it has warts. Has anyone else had this problem or know if it is covered by the warranty?

where the heck you keeping it? bottom of boat? JK LOL
I have heard of this, don't think they will cover under warranty though. You could try , heck they might just refinish for you to see what caused the bubbling.
good luck.

Ha Ha after I posted this I realized that I left out 2 things. The gun is stored in a cabinet beside another 870 and the rest of my guns. The other is 870 is matte finish that doesn't rust if you keep it oiled and none of my other guns are rusted??? Seriously confused here.

Interested in seeing this -- Got any pictures??

Got 4 870s aorund here -- no problem except for one -- YES, I did leave an 870 Express Magnum in my boat several years ago after duck season was over. Forget about it until I getting ready to go fishing several months later ... It was in a case .... and, YES, it was rusty .. sandblasted it down, and applied the baked on DuraCoat ... looks pretty good now!!

Take it to Billy Tierce in Utica or Birdsong in Florence..get it Black T'd and forget about it

Have never heard of such on Remington 870's

Get a Golden rod to dry the humity out of your cabinet...put the gun inside a gunsock

WOW that aint worth a &%$#. I would call or email Remington asap before it gets much worse. I got an Express thats been through alot and only problem was a little surface rust. this appears to be the gun not being completely degreased and metal cleaned before they applied the coating i believe. .02

Now that sucks --- I would certainly email that picture to Remington and ask them how they want it returned to them for a "cure."!!

My 870 tactical has surface rusting problems. It came rusty from the factory, but it was special ordered so I had to take it. It doesnt have any pitting like that though.

WOW, they would get that one back from me for sure.

If Remington didn't want to help me, I would drive there and "return" it through their front window. That is plain unacceptable for a 1 year old gun.

I hope they fix it for you. Hell, you might even get a new gun out of it!

(Oh, wait. This isn't KelTec we're talking about here. ) lol
