I do not think I would put anything in the mail until I heard back from them with specific instructions on returning it ... just my take on the situation ...

Recieved good news on my 870. Remingtons customer service really sucks but academy sports in Jackson is awesome. I purchased the gun there and they are going to handle this issue for me. +1 on Academy Sports

Well I'm glad it's working out for you. Good to hear that academy is stepping up to the plate.

Standard reply from any gun company is going to be to send it home (usually). The problem with that is you don't know what is going to happen from there. Usually they will call you if you are going to be charged. At that point you can either pay to have it fixed or pay to have it sent back to you like it is. If it is to be warranty, they will just send it to you no charge. Either way you pay for shipping it back to the factory.

I really think in your case thay will repair the gun for free, but I have no crystal ball. Roll the dice and send her home. Include a polite and to-the-point note with it.

I hope you get it fixed. Good luck.

(get insurance from the shipper!)

Try contacting someone at NRA. Just a hunch, but they may have someone that can actually help you with this problem. Better Business Burue(sp?) give them a call and see what they say.
Any time you talk to Remington make sure you ask for that persons name and title. And tell that person that if they cannot help you that you need to speak to thief manager. Also get a Tele # and ext# of who you are talking to. When you start asking for this type of info people tend to know how to help you, because then they know that you could possibly tell someone higher up how they treated you. You might even try telling them that this conversation is being recorded for your own records.

This is kind of off topic but I've had a few hard feelings toward Remington in the way that they have dealt with the folks who bought Model 597's in 17 cal. Their argument that the problem was the fault of the ammo and the subsequent "deal" that they offered was insulting IMHO. Folks I know who contacted Remington customer service were treated rudely and I think that they are passing the buck on more of their customer service issues than in the past. Anyway, sorry for hijacking your thread and I do hope that you have good results in getting your issue resolved. OT

Well that was kinda my main reason for posting this. I contacted remington and the guy I talked to sounded like he wasn't really interested in what I was saying. If I am talking to somone that has an issue with my product that may affect thousands of guns. I think I am going to listen. It will be really hard for
me to buy another remington I want a model 700 in 308 but i think I am going to go with the browning medallion.

I know I am late on this but my 870 did the same thing. I rather Remington send me the extra money paid for this special powder coat than have them fix it. At least it will be done right. Remington is a quantity over quality company and will always be. If you looked up the word junk in the dictionary you will probably see Remington in the description. I think they fired all their quality control officers to save an extra buck. The problem with the 597 is Remington's and the cartridges fault. The 17 is load to hot for a blowback semi auto and Remington should have actually tried to test fire some of their crap that they put out. Now Remington wants to push their ACR rifle to the government. It was originally a magpul design that was slaughtered by Remington. Great Now I will go over seas with a Remington and have a rifle that I know is worse than "made by the lowest bidder status." If their quality is horrible with civilian guns, imagine what will happen with a military contract.
