Savage Model 11VT (Dick's Special)

Post by Yarob on Wed May 01, 2013 8:45 am

If you're looking for an accurate rifle at a good price then I can recommend the Savage 11VT. It's a rifle made exclusively for Dick's. It's typical Savage; gives off cheap vibes and can sometimes be balky about feeding but it's as accurate as rifles that cost 5 time as much. Went to the range with a few .223 loads and did some testing. It's nice to test less than 20 shots and find one you'll probably never beat. Testing is DONE. .300", 5 shots with 63 grain Sierra 1370.

One BIG problem.....it's a Dick's exclusive. I'm done shopping in that joke of a store, as are most people here. They were a joke even before selling us out after Newtown.

Other than that it doesn't look like you have much to complain about! Hard to argue with those results!

Good shooting and in this economy, finding a good price is getting to be more of a must so I'd say you made a good grab on that and thanks for the range report!

Did you measue the entire diameter of that group? Cause I believe it's smaller than .30 .

You probably know this but group size is measured center to center

Nope, .300 center to center. I WISH it was smaller but I'm sure not gonna complain when a $500 off the shelf rifle shoots like this with only the second load I tested! I'm just hoping the mojo stays in this rifle.

That's just the way Savages are. They've long surpassed Remchesters for off the shelf accuracy. I got one or two myself.

Yep. That's a Savage.
By the way did y'all know that ATK, the parent company that owns Speer is buying Savage? Subject to approval the deal is expected to close at the end of June.

Wonder how the boys in the shop feel about that?

I understand from friend from Lewiston Idaho (home of Speer) that they are a good company so Savage people should be good. I believe they are just expanding their line in outdoor sports. For all of us a good owner for any ammo or gun making is a plus.
