Yeah but I don't mind people making money off me it's when they make a killing that I've got a problem. The thing is it's probley not max jr. it's sig that's making the killing.

IM sure they pay max well. It took them a while in negotiations to get him on board. Springfield pays Rob Leatham 7 figures a year now.

Hey Rob, I'm not meaning to call you out or anything, but can I ask the source for that number? In an article entitled "The Million Dollar Man" in the Nov./Dec. 1996 issue of American Handgunner, it was stated that Springfield made Leatham the first "million dollar shooter" by signing him to a multi-year contract that totalled $1,000,000. I remember it as being a 10 year contract, but it may have been fewer. If someone wants to check me, the article can be ordered for $4 from here: American Handgunner. Of course there are other sponsorships, Safariland, etc, and training, but I would be surprised if they were paying him anywhere close to 7 figures a year under a new contract. I've heard Max got a pretty sweet deal from Sig, but I am pretty sure it is no where near 7 figures a year.

Back to the thread topic, $1000 is high. When Max was with the Army, he and Travis would do a class for about 8 or 10 people for less than half of that, but that was on your range.

A friend of Mine is friends with him, and told me it should be close to that. Rob signed that contract in 1980 it ended in 1990. All he did was shoot for them. Now he does alot more for them...like designing and consulting work. INflation fame etc. price goes up

I guess we’ll have to just agree to disagree on this one. I’ve spoken with him a few times. He’s a nice guy, but I don’t know him well enough to say we are friends or to ask him how much he makes. Heck, I don’t ask my close friends that, but….

Your dates for the contract I mentioned are incorrect. He didn’t shoot his first USPSA Nationals until 1981 (finishing 10th) and his first Steel Challenge and Bianchi Cup in 1982. According to the biography on his own website, he didn’t ”quit his day job” as a computer operator until 1987, when he started his firearms training business. He got a “major contract” with Springfield in 1989, which I believe wasn't the 10 year / $100K per year deal which came a few years later as mentioned in the American Handgunner article from 1996 discussed above. So the 10 year deal wouldn’t have ended in 1990, but sometime in the last 4 or 5 years. I don’t doubt it was increased after it ended, but with the economy as it is, etc, I have a hard time believing that it went up anywhere close to 10 fold.

I'm not going to post it here, but a thorough search on the internet (there is WAY too much information available on all of us out there, IMHO) reveals a lot of interesting info. I'll just say that though it looks to me like he does well, it is not consistent with a 7 figure or near 7 figure annual income, let alone that much from just his major sponsor.

One of my favorite things about most shooting sports, but USPSA in particular, is the ability to compete against and with the best in the world. It's not like that with many other sports. It's also cool to be able to take a training class with them so easily. Rob lists classes on his website for $150 and $260, respectively, in Arizona. Try to get a class at all with Federer, Tiger, Lebron, etc, let alone for this little money. Heck, try to get one for $1000!

My mistake I didnt go back and check the dates. Those just stuck in my head for some reason, but once he got out of that contract he started making a bunch more. I know how things change when they are passed along, and what he is paid is none of my business. Yet I hear it is right at 1,000,000 just from springfield, but that could be totally wrong or what he gets from all of his sponsors.
