Firearms Permit and buying a firearm

Firearms Permit and buying a firearm
I haven't bought anything from a dealer since I received my firearms permit, only f-t-f. I was told by a friend that now I won't have to wait for them to call the gub-ment to make sure I am not Al-Qaeda. Others I have asked say that I still do. What's the skinny here? I'm planning on picking up a lower and a pistol next week and would like to know for sure. Thanks.

I had dealers who did not call and have had some that did ove rthe years .... I think you may will experience the same thing ... I do not believe all dealers are aware -or - they want to pay it 200% safe and make the call .. it is really no big deal to me .. never had a problem either way ..

No, no problems for me either, but I hate being ignorant. I'm just looking for the statute that states this as being law.
The one that told me that I still had to do the BG check was a dealer, so I know what you mean. I also think they are just unaware. I just want it in writing, know what I mean? It's hard to debate with a dealer about guns or gun laws when they have been selling them for 30 years. They already know everything and it makes them less than receptive when you start disagreeing with them.

I did not have to do a BG check on the last couple guns I bought due to having the CCW. Guess it depends on the dealer you are using.

You permit counts as a NCIC background check. Therefore they don't have to call in.

No one has ever called mine in since I got my CCW. Neat. Also, no one has ever charged me anything for receiving a gun for me (from Bud's Gun Shop, etc) since I got my CCW. Before the permit, the FFL fee was always $25.

The dealer even asked for my permit before he got out the forms. No trouble at all like the rest have said.

correct.. it saves alot of time.
They just write down the number off the card instead of calling it in.

I never knew that. I've had the NCIC background check done for my HazMat endorsement (CDL) and for my Security Guard Firearms Permit. I also have to do it again when I apply for my TWIC card. I'm gonna do my CCW this month (just had a CSR at my bank to notarize my paperwork)!
Thats alot of money!!!!!

I will look up the code section later, but you can check the FBI website here:
http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/nics/nicsfact.htm
Under "Additional information"
Additional Information
For the FFL to initiate background checks with the NICS Section, the FFL MUST BE ENROLLED WITH THE FBI. Enrollment packets may be obtained by contacting the NICS Section via mail at 1000 Custer Hollow Road, Clarksburg, West Virginia 26306, via e-mail at a_nics@leo.gov, or via telephone at 1-877-444-NICS (6427).
Persons holding firearm permits which qualify as alternatives, per the ATF, under the permanent provision of the Brady Act are not required to undergo a NICS check.
Mississippi's concealed firearms permit has been accepted.
