If you are looking for a cheap reliable pistol you can pick up a Ruger p-series in 9mm, .40 or .45 for around 275.00 bucks. They are accurate and built like tanks plus they are SA/DA. The one I have has over 2500 rds down the tube and has never had any issue. If I was buying my first handgun it would be a Smith & Wesson or Ruger Revolver.

I had a sigma.
It isn't as bad as some people say.
I swapped out the a couple springs and did some polishing and it shot pretty good after that.
Its a cheap gun can't expect miracles out of them.
Never found anything it wouldn't shoot or wouldn't feed right unlike alot of semi autos.
Just my $.02 worth

Yeah me too, but academy was running a sale on them for like $279 and Smith had a $50 mail in rebate so I wasn't gonna loose any money on the deal, figured I would give it a shot.
I put around 2k down the tube and never had a failure, maybe I got lucky.

have you considered a 1911? the trigger pull is the "golden standard" as far as trigger pulls go and they conceal easily, they are ergonomically great, no plastic, serious defensive caliber and you could probably find a good used one for the price of a sigma.

Sigma makes a good "starter" gun or truck gun. 11-12lb trigger keeps you from having an AD for sure. accuracy is ok for what it is.

A 1911 may be the Gold Standard, but there's a big emphasis on GOLD. I bought a Springfield Mil-Spec stainless, loved the gun, but it just jammed too much, at least once every 3 magazines. I broke it in with over 500 rounds and tried all different kinds of ammo. It was good at first then started sucking. There is ZERO excuse for a $600+ gun to not be able to feed and eject rounds. You hear everyone defending them saying "Oh well, you may have to send it to so and so to get the extractor or blah blah blah worked on"... That's BS, you shouldn't have to send off a BRAND NEW gun just to make it function properly.

I believe there is somebody advertising (on another forum) a P6 in "unissued condition" for $360 in the Byram area.

you dont have to send it off.... mabe just replace the mags...which technically isnt a gun problem. If you did have to send it back to springfield they would have paid shipping both ways, fixed it for free and probably given you some "tuning freebies" also because they feel the same way about it running right out of the box as you do...thats why SA's CS is the best, hands down. Your not a fool for buying that 1911...your a fool for not taking advantage of the best customer service in the business.

think of it like a car, you can go buy a nissan sentra and drive it 200000 miles without having to tinker with it very much or you can get an old dodge charger and have to fix it up untill you feel that it is truly "yours"....and it might not even crank the day you buy it and in the end you could have bought 2 nissan sentras with the cash you put into the charger but you will love that car. granted they both serve the same purpose but the charger has character, you might accidentally get into the wrong sentra coming out of walmart one day.

If you cant beat a 1911 buy one Wink

well lemme tell ya if its your first handgun and your first choice...get it even if you have to wait and save, dont fall into the "instant gratification" trap and end up just settling for whats there now. save and get what you want and dont look back that way you wont ever regret it

plus its worth it.

dont let that compensator get you all starry eyed, for $1000 you could get a used Les Baer which any sane human being would take over even a new kimber any day.
