Re: Barrel length
That's correct. A machinegun trumps a SBR. If you own a registered machinegun you're allowed to use any length barrel you like. From one inch to one hundred inches. You can remove the buttstock, add fore grips... pretty much anything you like.Xd357 wrote:SGF what your saying is if you have an m16 you don't need papers on a sbr?
SGF; you'll be kicking yourself ten years from now when the prices double again.
I do understand what you're saying. I seriously doubt I'd buy one at today's current prices. It's just insane what they're selling for and I paid about half today's going price when I bought mine.

Wow! Did not know that.

Re: Barrel length
Vegas speaks the truth. One reason why M16s are so HIGH $$$ these days. They are so versatile. Once you own the registered lower (or RDIAS), the sky is the limit...........
Back in the early 80s brand new M16s were going for around $1600. But the SMGs I bought were much less. What was holding me back was ammo. Back then 223 was hard to get, and I was paying 25 cents/rd for my Colt SP-1 AR-15. Who knew that 0.25/rd would be a bargin at today's prices............. Heck, most of my SMGs are 45acp because Uncle Sam was still using 45acp then and 9mm was high $$$ then. Now 9mm is some of the cheapest ammo. LIVE & LEARN............
FYI: Back then an M60 was $3500 and an M2 (50cal) was $5000. We are talking brand new guns. See what those puppies (used) are selling for today.......... I wanted an M60 ON SO BAD......... but couldn't scape up that kind of money then.
The "funny thing" back then was the cost of the Tax Stamp. You bought a SMG for $300 (MAC) to $500 (UZI), and then had to pay $200 for the stamp. That cost stopped a lot of my buddies from buying a full-auto. Now with $3000+ SMGs ($15,000 M16s), the $200 is nothing...............

Re: Barrel length
Shooting a 10.5" is just plain fun.
I have a M1Sales 10.5 heavy chromed barrel that I do magdumps with and basically abuse on full auto. It is missing chunks of rifling and eats brass cases up. The gas tube has been melted once. It has survived despite my attempts. Its starting to split necks and needs to retire.
Ive got a 10.5" slabside 607 upper. It hasnt got the automatic touch yet. This is a VERY VERY light upper and it feels great on my M16 lower.
I have built an 11.5 heavy bushmaster 1/7 with an ARMS SIR rail and ARMS #41 folding FSB/#40 BUIS. I generally use an aimpoint on this upper. Its pretty dern heavy.
