anybody shoot long range?
Ive been looking around for a bullet for my .270 that i can sling on out there. This weekend i want to see if i can ease out to 1000yds, yea i know its a long ways
Right now im shooting some cheap 110gr Vmax i got on clearance last year for $15 for a 100 pack. They shoot one hole group at 100yds. if they hold on the paper at 500yds im goin to setup a 4'x4' peice of metal at 1000 and see if i can hit it.
I found some Berger 140 Grain VLD Hollow Point Boat Tail and some Sierra MatchKing 135 Grain Hollow Point Boat Tails that im goin to order and try them out.
Im loading them with Varget right now, but from what ive been reading IMR-4350 and H4831are the favorable powders. So i gotta find some to try..
What yall think??

I bet the 4831 will do the trick. RL17 works well in my 260 but I have ZERO experience with the 270. Make sure you scope has enough elevation reach out to 1000y.

I would use 4895 or 4064 for teh 110 gr bullet. The influence of the wind will be higher with 110gr than 150 gr bullets

I would try vv560 and the 140 bergers. I was able to get 1/2 MOA out of a 270 I built using that combo.

VV powders are always a plus in my book.. Pops has been using 4064 in his 270 since befor i was born and has had no need to change
Re: anybody shoot long range?
IT was really windy saturday. roughly 15mph from 8 oclock.
I didnt want to waste any bullets so i checked it at 100 and it was 4" high with the 140gr VLDs.
First shot was a guess at 400, it hit high and to the right. So my second shot was almost dead on. I aimed left side of the paper and roughly center.

Bullet didnt drop much at all.
The110gr Vmax was 4" high at 100 and 10" low at 400 if that tells you anything..
