Anyone familiar with SMPSA?
If so, chime in and let us know -- I see they have 3-gun matches often ...

I've shot there on and off for 20 years. It's a little primitive, but they do alot with the course design. It's cool to run through a wooded gravel pit shooting at targets that are hidden. Very challenging!

I'm thinking about going and shooting in their USPSA match. They shoot on 2nd Sunday every month. I'm not sure when they shoot the 3-gun matches, but do know they shoot them there. Its right outside of Poplarville on 26 toward Wiggins. like Rob said.

Re: Anyone familiar with SMPSA?
I shot my first match there in January 2003 (I had to look it up by googling my name and "Sharp Shooter", the name of their old newsletter, to be sure). I was living in Jackson at the time and shooting as much as I could, so I traveled when I could to see what other clubs were like. That was back when they just added up hitfactors (points divided by time) for their scoring.
The matches have changed some over the years, and they do use official USPSA scoring now. Many things remain the same, however - an "unimproved" gravel pit (the "Range Features" description under the "Range Directions" on their website is accurate and cracks me up) with many improvised props and use of terrain within the stages. Most importantly, I always have fun when I go shoot there.
They shoot 3-gun on the 1st Sunday of the month and pistol on the 2nd Sunday, usually with a rifle or shotgun match following the pistol match. See the schedule on their website for more details.
For their match this month, they will be shooting two classifiers as I posted here .
