DOVE SEASON - OCTOBER 1976

Post by Ed Hunter on Wed Sep 04, 2013 2:36 pm

This is a quickie…

9/4/13

DOVE SEASON – OCTOBER 1976

Thought some of you might get a kick out of this – October 1976…

See the arrow. She’s got a couple doves hung up on the wire fence.

What about that gun?

It is a Kessler Arm, Model 326 FR in 20 GA  (2 3/4 inch), with a full choke

There was a brief exchange in late 2010 in these forums on the bolt action 20 gauge. You can check it out, if you care, at:
http://www.msgunowners.com/t7887-bolt-action-20ga

One of my other daughters has that gun now.

So, let’s jump ahead 33 years and there she is again.

By the way, that Ruger Standard .22 on the bench was given to me by my mother for my birthday in 1962.

Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did (do) recalling these times.

I started with a Savage 22/410 over and under at 11/12 yo. Moved up to a Savage 20 gauge auto. Man, I miss that shotgun.

I've never been able to shoot as well with any other shotgun even with practice. Maybe it's just age, though. Lol

I always looked forward to the yearly dove hunt more than rabbit season.

Thanks for the post.

Ed, nice thread.  I too enjoy looking at old pictures and re-living the past.

Thank you.

What surprises me is that no one was all over my case...see the picture.

She's got her finger on the trigger!

I wouldn't be surprised though that, right after the picture was taken, she got growled at.

You're welcome and thanks for your reply.

Must confess that it's been a long time since I've shot doves.

I've got lots of fond memories from dove hunts I've been on.

Just a few years ago I did something that no one else in the field that day had ever seen.

I killed two doves with one shot that were flying from opposite directions. I was leading on one that was flying from my right to left, and just at the instant I pulled the trigger I saw another flying in from left to right. They lined up just right, right when I pulled the trigger and I got 'em both with one shot!

Yes, it was pure luck, but I *DID* have witnesses!

Good stuff Ed, thanks. Just goes to show that you don't need the latest, greatest camo patterns to kill a dove or two!

Thank you for your input. Do I read into it that maybe you are a geriatric-gunner too?

By the way, in your avatar – is that lever action laying across the front of the display a Daisy? I had one years (good lord, years!!) ago. Gave it to one of my grandsons. Of course, he’s grown now and also has my 30-338 Win Mag.

Thank you for your reply. I enjoy these conversations.

Looking back over the originating post for this thread, I’m afraid I mis-titled it. I think it ought to be “September 1976”.

I think I’ll finger my daughter for that flub!
