Do not think you have to but if he/she ask I would always be honest. Just don't take it to school with you. We are still trying to get that law passed and might take a while longer.

to me it depends on who it is, but the guys that know me know i always have one with me. i dont think to highly of some cops b/c of the way i've been treated in the past by some cops when i did absolutely nothing wrong. i will never lie to a cop, but since i dont legally have to volunteer my information, i wont be doing that.

Agree 100%.

I've been ripped off by cops in Meridian during a routine traffic stop. I ignorantly allowed them to search my truck "because I had nothing to hide"(stupid of me), he unloaded my gun and kept the all the ammo while screaming that I had "cop killer" ammo... it was Federal Hydroshoks. No arrest and no receipt so he committed armed robbery against me.

I'm not going to start cop-bashing here but I will say because of this and other things I personally observed, I have a strong distrust of LEOs that I don't know and I will not volunteer anything more than I'm legally bound to give. So no, I don't tell them about any weapons in my vehicles and no, I'll never consent again to a search and no, I'll never donate to them again till they openly and actively weed out their own criminals and drunks.

God bless the ones that do an honest job... I just can't tell which ones they are.

Hmmm,I have been stopped many times back in the day and asked about a gun in my truck.I used to do traveling construction work, worked in 3 or 4 different states per year.Only places I've ever had a problem was in Baltimore,Md and Virigina, both places I had to demand a Lt or senior sargent to my location, officers both times wanted to take my pistol, both times I lost the ammo. But I kept my pistols.
I always tell them I have a firearm in the truck,I always put in on the dash out of their reach in plain sight(gets you out of a concealed issue every time).I never allow a search,if I have to,I ask for a warrant.
I have only once had a ccw and that was in Alabama.I'd get one here except they are wayyyyyy over priced and Ms wants a serial number for each and every pistol I might be using for a ccw( I have more than 1 pistol, how do I know which one I'm gonna grab that day to use).
Personally I have found that when dealing with Leo's during a stop a little common sence,a little respect and some good people skills will get you a long ways.

Errrrrr...no they don't. MS does not require any firearm information when you get your permit. Unlike many other states, the MS permit does not specify a specific weapon, or even "revolver" or "semiauto". There is also no training requirement. Somebody is yanking your chain...big time.

I completely agree the permits are way over priced, but serial numbers, nope.

This thread should have died with this first reply.

My question is my buddy got pulled over the other day and when the cop asked...he said yeah there is one in here, the cop then told him to hand it to him, is this legal? You are not required to tell them. Now if you have a MFP they will know when they run your DL are you required to give all the guns in the truck? No also do they have to have a reason to run the serial numbers on a gun?No

Listen to XD357. It's none of their business if you have a firearm unless you are prohibited in the first place. Normally an officer won't give two s**ts whether you have a gun in the car or not. They want to run you for warrants, make sure you aren't intoxicated, and give you your ticket.

"I've got a gun" is NOT what the officer wants to hear when he walks up to your window. You really shouldn't be saying anything other than yes sir and no sir.
