Trigger job for my AR

I have a Stag arms AR-15 and I want a new trigger for it that wont break the bank. Could some of yall give me some suggestions? Im not a comp. shooter just targets around home but I reload and like small groups. I have gotten .5 inch groups out of this gun at 100yd but the average is 3/4" with handloads. The trigger pull on this gun is heavy and Im sure I could get better groups with a new trigger.

Depends on what you consider "economical". If you want a single-stage pull, the JP kits are more work than the newer drop-ins but they work great and save a little money ($50-60). I think they can be had for around $130 for the adjustable trigger and lighter springs. They come with good written directions as well as a very good CD with video directions for install. You can lighten the stock hammer for use with the JP trigger and it works pretty well, saving the need to purchase the JP hammer. I've installed two and they both easily came in within a few ounces of 3lbs, crisp, clean, and consistent, and have been great. I've also been around a good many others, as they were THE trigger to have for several years among USPSA/IPSC three-gun shooters. They're still popular, but I think the drop-ins have have gained popularity for the ease of install and maybe the ability to carry identically set up spares.

I need 4 AR trigger jobs!! but can not justify the cost of the drop-ins ...

I guess the JP kits are available at Midway and such? $50-60 is definitely economical at my house! I will have to llok into these!

I'm sorry. I meant they save you about $50-60 over the full drop in kits. JP's adjustable triggers are about $130 I think, while the drop-ins are closer to $200. I apologize for not being more clear on that. Midway has them as does Brownells and others.

thanks again DB im going to look at the JPs. The gun will shoot .5 to .75" groups with handloads so I dont know how much I would gain for my investment.. I just dont like heavy triggers and mine is heavy.

No problem. I am in Hattiesburg if you want to check out my JP sometime. Just shoot me a PM. I know what you mean about it probably not making a big difference because of how good it is shooting now, but if it easier or more enjoyable to shoot, it may still be worth it.

When we finalize a load for mine, the trigger will be the final part to getting the best possible groups! I hope mine will shoot groups that good. Maybe not though, it is not a match grade barrel.

The Rock River match triggers are not drop in, but are cheaper than the JP units. I don't know what they're going for now.

I don't have any, but I hear good things about Rock River's match triggers. People want the Rock River 2-stage match triggers.

Me, being a TIGHT-WAD...... I would try to "hone & dremill" before spending $$$ on a match trigger system. Regular AR fire control groups are fairly cheap these days............... Plus I like the challenge............ But hate the screw-ups..............

I have one on an AR of mine and it is nice. The JP units are a little better as far as trigger break is concerned.

i got a 2 stage jewel awhile back it was about 200 with shipping but it made a huge diffenence in my groups . if you set them to light when the gun bounces off your shoulder it will fire again , and maybe again . it takes getting used to but i love mine .

I've never worked with one of the drop-in triggers. When I built my AR I used a Stag LPK, and the trigger was really a hard pull. I sent it to Bill Springfield for a 4 pound pull and lightened hammer. For $44 I got back a really nice crisp trigger that I'm very happy with. Get an RRA two stage. It is the best bang for the buck in a match grade trigger.

I have two RRA triggers and a Geiselle adjustable service rifle trigger and the RRAs aren't quite as good but they cost about $160 less ($279 vs. $120).

Geiselle also makes a non adjustable two stage model for around $180.

I will say this, if you are shooting sub moa now a new trigger isn't going to do a whole lot more. You may see a little improvement but the law of diminishing returns kicks in at some point.
