There are a lot of upgrades that you could do that may improve the gun in some intangible way, but I agree with the other posters that a Volquartzen target hammer is definitely money well spent. For about $35, you can drop the trigger pull from 8# or whatever ridiculous pull it is down to about 3-4#. That should improve your accuracy more than many other, more expensive improvements you could do.
Besides that, it's fun to tinker with!!

Re: 10/22 upgrades
Ok I am goint to start with the trigger. So most of you say to get the Volquartsen target Hammer and that will be good?
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=163143
What about the Volq' bolt release and target hammer combo does the bolt release add any to the 10/22?
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=145851
What about the drop in Volq' trigger group?
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=736286
figured I could do this in steps

Re: 10/22 upgrades
The hammer by itself will improve your trigger pull greatly. If yours is like mine, it was VERY heavy if you try to do any kind of precision shooting with it. The target hammer lightened it up considerably. I have always heard on rimfirecentral to re-use the factory Ruger springs though, instead of replacing them with the Volquartzen springs that come with the hammer.
You can add the auto-bolt release, which allows you to chamber a round simply by pulling back on the bolt handle and lettin er fly as opposed to finagling with the little bolt release button by the trigger guard. However, if you are cheap, you can Dremel out your own auto bolt release for free. I think there is a sticky about that on rimfirecentral. I haven't done this yet but I intend to. You can/should make this modification while you've got the trigger group apart, if you want the auto-bolt release.
The trigger group is supposed to be very good, but I have a personal problem with paying $190 to improve the trigger on a $200 gun. Again, I am cheap. Some people really like theirs. I am not sure that it would add $150 more improvement over the $40 target hammer though. Someone may be able to say who has used one.

Re: 10/22 upgrades
so these are the two parts that I would need to start with?
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=163143
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=893349
they are out of stock right now of the combo but it isn't much more so might go ahead and order.

Re: 10/22 upgrades
I have these in both of my 10/22s
but they are discontinued
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=179101
I honed a little on the one in my bull barrel 10/22 and its nice and light.
I have this barrel
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=732142
on a hogue stock.

It shoots ok, its really light which is a plus. Its lighter than the factory barrel. Ill prolly end up with bull barrel one day tho..
Then there is my Favorite 10/22
Factory with the Clarks trigger/hammer and a folding stock. and a Tasco PDP2 red dot.

Re: 10/22 upgrades
Alright I just took my whole 10/22 apart and there are only a dozen or so parts to the whole gun, I mean the whole thing trigger and all amazing if I would have known this I would have messed with it along time ago. My trigger parts hopefully will be in tomorrow so I can do it this weekend at camp and try her out but if not it will give me something to do next week on break at work.
Thanks for all the help guys.

Remember to reuse your factory Ruger springs, if you are replacing the hammer with a Volquartzen. Not sure why people say to do this, but I have seen it several times.
I reused my Ruger springs when I replaced my hammer.

so don't swap out any springs? Why is that? I figured the new springs would be better, guess I can keep them for backup

Re: 10/22 upgrades
It has been recommended not to swap out the springs. I don't know why, but it seemed like the guys recommending it were pretty knowledgeable, so I just did as they recommended. Ruger has a reputation for making pretty stout stuff, maybe their springs are somehow beefier or stronger than the VQ ones?
Sorry I can't shed any more light than that. Yeah, I saved my VQ ones for spares too.

I work off 220 and go to clinton all the time to Surplus City and Walmart during lunch. I will look you up if I need to but the way it comes apart it looks easy enough

Re: 10/22 upgrades
It took me awhile to figure out how to put one of the trigger groups back together the first time i took it apart. Now i can do it with my eyes closed.
It took me forever to figure out how to get the bolt back in too..

Re: 10/22 upgrades
Alright I put the new hammer and bolt release in and took it out and shot to test function and after every shot I have to push the bolt closed. Question did I put something in wrong? All I swapped out is the hammer, bolt release, and extended mag release. And I also cleaned the whole internals everything but the bolt so should I take the bolt out and clean it also?
I was shooting the federal 550 bulk pack from walmart and it use to work fine till I cleaned everything.

Re: 10/22 upgrades
That is a dangerous situation! You need to fix it right away.
Will it cycle ok by hand?
Something is bad wrong. Clean it and check your slide spring and charging handle rod. You may have bent it during assembly. Double check your assembly while you are in there. Make sure everything is in its place.
A .22 is a filthy round. Clean your Ruger often. It will love you for it!
