Re: 10/22 upgrades
1st off my dad bought this 22 from a guy at work about 3 years ago and we haven't shot it since last summer and it worked fine. It was made in 92 by the serial#. We clean it everytime we shot it we have never taken the trigger or bolt out just didn't know it was that easy
Sub, I finally got the pin out that holds the guide rod and bolt in which is the first time I have taken it out I cleaned it and stick it back in. It does but cycle normally all the time and I have to help it out to close. So do you think it is the guide rod being bent? And can you bend the guide rod by taking the trigger pack out?
I might have to meet up with someone to check it out this week

Re: 10/22 upgrades
It took me forever to figure out how to get the bolt back in too..
I thought you posted this, I was confused, lol. Removing the trigger pack cannot damage the rod.
First of all, make sure the ejector is seated all the way down in the trigger housing. It may be sticking up a bit and dragging on the bottom of the bolt.
If it is ok, the upper might be very dirty and messing with it loosened up some crud that has lodged in a bad spot. Give it a bath, lube it with a very small amount of oil or dry-lube, and see if the bolt will slide smoothly in the receiver without the charging handle assembly in it. If it does, add the charging handle assy and see if it still slides ok. If all is well, add the trigger pack and function check.
Make sure you solve this before trying to fire it again. You don't want one going off out-of-battery.

Re: 10/22 upgrades
Sub I figured it out. It worked fine with the trigger pack out so I put the old bolt release back in and it works fine now. The new bolt release doesn't look bent or anything so not sure what is wrong with it. Gonna call midway on Monday and talk it out. Any suggestions on why it didn't work?

Re: 10/22 upgrades
that is strange
All I can say is to look at the trigger pack in stock form and compare it to how it looks with the other release installed. Take pics if needed. Look for anything sticking up too high that could drag on the bolt. I wish I could look at it in person for you. I would have it fixed up in a snap. What brand is the release? If it isn't install error, the release is obviously to blame.
I would just modify the stock bolt release if I was you. It takes 10 minutes with a couple small files. I did it to mine and it works great! Saves a couple bucks, too. Maybe Midway would give you a credit/refund for the one you bought. Then you could buy more goodies for your Ruger.
Good luck, dhollis!

I was looking for the thread on rimfirecentral where they discussed modifying the stock bolt release, but couldn't find it. Do you have that link, or other info on how to do it? Is there a template out there you could print out and scribe on the bolt release to know how to grind out the metal, or did you just "wing it" as best you can from the photos of the auto releasesid

Re: 10/22 upgrades
Alright I put the Volq bolt release back in to see if I can see a difference in the two and now it is cycling fine. I haven't shot it but it hasn't hung up or anything. I will test fire it somewhere and let you know. any suggestions on why it is working now and not on Sat?

My guess is the ejector was not seated in it's slot or you had cranial proctitis the first time. I'll let you decide which one it was.
