Started Playing....

I have been building my reloading table and finally got it built (still got to trim and paint it).. But my son has been so excited to start "building bullets" That I said well at least I can deprime a few empties.. But I ran into a few empties where the primer wont come all the way out.... What is the deal with that.. Out of a box of 50 there were about 4.... Is that normal????

Also, I have a Rock Chucker and it as a little arm on it that looks like it holds a primer.. Is that for putting a primer in??? What is that little arm for???

Post some pics of your reloading bench. We are buying a house and I will finally be able to set my reloader up. I need some ideas on how to build my bench.

I really like the lockable cabinet on the side! I can't believe you got to do that in your house! Mine will be in a room under the carport. I am planning on keeping my powder and primers in the house where they are "safe."
Are you going to mount your reloader permanently? My space won't be very big either. It is about 5 1/2 feet wide.

Sound like your decapping pin is not set low enough to fully push the spent primers out. What brand dies you using? Most are adjustable --

Yep -- that little arm is for putting in new primers .. the primer is placed into the cup, the arm is pushed into the recess while the press is in the up stroke, and while holding the arm into the recess - the press is brought down into the downstroke .. / will try to post a few pictures later ..

Looks great -- that will hold up to about anything you want to do!! It will look much better with all your "stuff" mounted --- a suggestion that may be helpful -- a couple shelves eiither to the right side of the window or on the right will serve you well .... You will realize that more space is better after a while. LOOKS GOOD!!

Shelves or cabinets... more the better!!

Im fixin to build two 4'Widex4'Tallx16"Deep things.. dunno what to call them. cabinet/shelf combo.

This is in my garage.. No way the wife would let me put it inside.. This space is 5'5" by 24"

Yes they are adjustable.. That is what I figured was the issue.. I have mostly RCBS this one in particular was a Lyman.. .


So on that arm.. You put the primer in the cup.. Pull the handle down, push the arm in the grove in the press rod and then push the arm back up?? Is that how that works??? Seems like alot of effort.. Is a hand primer faster??

Hand primer is much much faster and easier.

Priming cases on a single stage:

Correct shellholder for caliber brass to be primed --
Correct size primers --
Correct size primer cup on priming arm (the cups are interchangeable - small primer and large primer)

Raise ram to up position pushing case in shellhold "up" --





While ram is up, push primer arm into recess part of the ram using your finger/hand:

Lower ram slowly while holding the primer arm in the recess part of the ram -- the shellhold has a hole in it and the primer cup will go through this hole and line-up with the primer pocket on the brass -- excert some pressure upward on your press handle (lowering the ram) and you will feel the primer seat into the piece of brass:



Raise the ram (pushing down on your press handle) and the spring in the primer arm will return it to the original position.

Lower the ram (pulling up on your press handle) and remove the primed brass .. Repeat, repeat, repeat ....



When I have many, many to do, I like using the RCBS hand primer .. If you get an RCBS, just remember that it will not take the Lyman shellholds - the shellholders must be RCBS ..

Dillon is all I have to say about the priming. I also use a RCBS hand primer on small batches . Dillon make the world go "round after round"!
Love to hear that more are getting thier hands dirty with reloading.
Looks like Cap has this under control, any more questions just ask.

I can ever get the primer on the RCBS press to seat the primers like I want them. I use the RCBS universal primer. It is much better than having to fool with the shell holders all the time.
