Alamo ammo has just what you need, and cheap too...lol  It's only $15.71 a round

And that my friends is why I reload. I can load 38's and .40 cal for less than a nickel. Plus I can load 30-30 for about $0.18 per round

Kind of related---I am surprised that anybody is still buying .22 rifles and handguns.

Personally, if I can't buy ammo, I don't see much reason to own the gun.

What I mean is: seems like Ruger and other gun manufacturers would be putting pressure on .22 ammo manufacturers to crank up the volume.

I hear rumors that the ammo manufacturers are working flat out but I have become skeptical.  There just can't be THAT many hoarders willing to spend THAT much money on ammo.  Heck, the hoarders would be out of storage room by now.

NRA_guy that was my thoughts, but according to what I understand each of the ammo makes makes 2,000 bricks a day and there are over 3,000 wal-mart stores alone. I bought some 22 in wal-mart in Thomasville, Al back in May and the clerk said it was the 1st shipment of bulk 22 so far. I hear that Canada has plenty of 22 available. Sooner or later everyone will either run out of money or room to store it. I don't know about you but if they were making money selling 22 why don't they add a line or something?

"I don't know about you but if they were making money selling 22 why don't they add a line or something? "

Classic manufacturing problem.  Something happens to ramp up sales volume.  How do you respond as a manufacturer?  I used to deal with this in the defense contracting businesss:

-Add more shifts
-Debottleneck your manufacturing to get more units per hour

Expand capacity?  This is the tough one.  Adding new production equipment for ammo has to be expensive [equipment, space, safety, warehousing for supplies and finished product, etc]

So you go to management and maybe your banker and make the case to spend the money.  They of course want to know the return on their money spent.  If the sales numbers are forecasted to stay strong, then you may get the go ahead.

But if management or the bankers think this is a short term phenomenon, then they will probably say no.  Since most return on capital forecasting is done on a 5 year or 10 year basis, I would suspect most manufacturers are leary of sinking too much money into new capacity, expecting the whole thing will die down way before they would recoup a decent return on those new investments.

Some merchants keep a supply of 22LR in reserve so that they can offer it to a customer buying a 22 rimfire gun.  They will not sell the reserve stuff to the general public.  Makes sense if a seller wants to move its rimfire guns (even if I dislike the policy!)

Are people still paying $50 and up for bricks of 22 that use to sell for $20 and less?  Many LGS say that their ammo is being resold at higher markups.  Hoarders will eventually get enough and stop buying, but as long as people will pay outrageous prices from resellers, the tight supply lines will not get back to normal.

A clerk at Academy yesterday said they started the day with 17 bricks: Winchester 500 round bricks @ $21 and Federal 350 round bricks @ $18, and all were gone within an hour.
