I've heard nightmare stories about sportsmansguide. A bunch of people on Ak-files forum were talking about receiving rusty parts kits. On the polish blank, you would have to weld in the rails and heat treat the receiver. You would also need a receiver that is predrilled to accept a polish style underfolder trunion or drill it out yourself (which is a major task). I recently purchased a very nice polish fixed stock AKM kit from southernohiogun.com for about $285 after shipping cost. I highly recomend that kit on a nodak spud receiver. Nodak also offers an underfolder receiver if you decide to go that route.

If you are determined to not use a ready made receiver, this guys flats are good. Much better and easier than heat treating a polish shell. I have seen quite a few built on these without heat treat, they do require welding though. I have seen at least two full autos built on these by sot's.
