Re: carry at the zoo? Updated!!
About 3 years ago when I had just moved here from the Mobile area there was a news item that the Gift Shop at the Jackson Zoo was robbed (armed). I thought what the heck kinda' place is this where they're committing armed robbery for probably $100. Then a few days later I heard where a Goodwill thrift store was robbed. Geez, now they're stealing used underwear. I quit watching the news shortly after that. Guess I need to bump getting my weapon permit up a little higher on my "to do" list.

Do that next week shoeshooter! Get licensed and start carrying, no excuses on waiting. It's quicker, easy & painless.

Was at the Jackson zoo yesterday for my niece and nephews bday. It was at the park area across from the zoo entrance... yanoe where folks back in the day used to swim and go 'parkin' I carried.
Had no problems, we were going to go into the zoo but it was almost closing time, so the father in law and I walked around the front entrance and did not see any knife/gun signs of any sort... But honestly either way I would carry.
I have kin folks in Memphis and they always carry to the zoo. It was voted best zoo in the USA recently, I believe. And yes... it is beautiful... prolly the only thing that nice IN memphis...it took us 2 days to go thru it last year, and we missed a lot of stuff as well.

Here are somethings I learned Saturday at the Memphis Zoo.
1)Firearms are not permitted.
2)If you are LEO and have a firearm, then you are supposed to notify the zoo.
3)Nobody pats you down upon entering
4)there are no metal detectors to walk through.
5) number 3 + number 4 = I felt safe at the zoo

Last time Me and the wife took my grandson to the Jackson, it was filled with security and JPD. It's getting there and back I worry about.
