It looks like the b@stard child of the model51(referenced in that article) and a Ruger SR series pistol

Nobody ever called a Glock pretty... and this Remington is made here in the good ole' U.S.A.

Did anyone mention it's not a polymer frame?  Shocked

I would buy one...   thumbs up

Here's more on this pistol from Jeff and Boge Quinn of Gunblast(dot)com.

I like the lower riding barrel in something more powerful than a .380 but I agree it is homely.

LOL, I actually like it myself and with a MSRP of $389 I might just be putting this on my short list for this year. Would really like a .40 version but I could use another 9mm.

Can't Remington just make an effort to bring the quality back on the Marlin guns rather than trying to further their foray into the handgun world with this thing. Nevertheless, if street prices approaches the $300 mark I might have to add another 9mm to the stable.

Looks great to me and I really like all steel guns. Would like a higher magazine capacity like 9 or 10 but with the slim profile I can live with it.

i like the idea, the execution is a mess though with all the wavy cutouts and design elements. i might be a fan if they kept the og lines and angles... i won't be a betta tester but in 5 or so years if they are worth a dang, i might pick one up

With the reports i have heard on remington and other freedom group companies quality issues and horrible customer service, i would be much more likely to buy a keltec.. they are far from high quality but they at least have good customer service.

A man can dream, can't he?

So what we have here is an all steel, internal hammered, single stack, single action pistol with a grip safety that looks like the illegitimate child of a PX4 and a PPK. Who is the market for this product? The traditionalists won't like the rounded edges and Star Trek type lines and the modernists won't care for the material. On the upside, Remington, with all of their issues, beat Glock to the punch on a single stack carry piece.

Find me a gun rag that wouldn't give a glowing review of even the biggest piece of $#!+ that fell apart in their hands...

I take these press releases with a grain of salt. Only a few years of real world testing and use will give me the information I need to justify the purchase of any completely new product like this.

I bought an original Remington Model 51 and traded it. Kicking myself now, but I will probably buy one of the new ones if a site like TTAG gives it a good reliability report.

So the R51 has been on the market for a few months now...its looking like Remington might have another recall on their hands.

Of course there are plenty of glowing gun rag reviews, but in the quick search I did on the R51, it revealed quite a few more problem videos than praise.

I don't like the sculptured swept line on the side of the slide...would rather it was smooth from front to back with the serrations cut into the rear for grabbing the slide.  Other than that, I think its a pretty neat design...hope they get their problems corrected.

Agreed.  I'm all for more competition in the compact 9mm market but this ain't it.

MAC is one of my go-to reviewers for just this reason.  Hell part of me despises Nutnfancy but I'd love to see him do a review on this as of the current production...that would be a hoot

I can't stand nutnfancy but Tim (Mac) always has an honest review. He writes for shooting times ( think that's right) now and is supposed to start with shotgun news soon, the editor there is a friend of his and is in some videos he does.

Don't I see serrations in the rear of the slide?

I'm not sure what you mean is missing in that regard.

(I don't care one way or the other about the gun. I'll probably never own one, but there are lots of handguns out there that I'll never own. I just run out of storage space.   rotflmao )

Sorry I wasn't clear...I would like the cuts to remain at the rear of the slide sides even without the sculpted (raised) ridge on the slide sides.  Just a confusing way of saying I would prefer a slab-sided slide to the sculptured one.   Smile

That new R51 looks more like a cross between the Whitney Wolverine & the old failed Rogak P18.
Neither one of those worked too well, so it seems there is more in common than just appearance.

It had potential.  I like the lines of it.  I've always thought a PPK in 9mm would be the coolest.  But I think you've got to give a new gun design a year or two, and like jakeg823 I don't trust "gun rag" reviews.  You never know who's paying who to write what.  Even "American Rifleman" is not immune from that.

Exactly.  It could be a Jennings or Phoenix or something and they'd claim "well in the 25 rounds we tested we didn't have a single issue, except a failure to feed, extract, fire and it went into burst fire a time or two, but other than that it's a nifty little gun!"

I agree and you stated it quite well. I had heard of some problems but thought they would have things straightened out by the time the pistol was shipped to dealers but yet again the corporate big wigs resort to hype to sell a product. Very disappointing.

Partial review on Gunblast.com. Jeff said very few malfunctions with several thousand rounds through about 10 guns.
