I read today that folks were shocked that they were having to pay as much as $400 plus tax for an ounce of legal pot. Bet they never saw that one coming.

The state of Colorado has taken on the role of organized crime by taking a big cut of all the pot action that happens on their turf. This is fundamentally no different than when the state of Mississippi replaced the local bootlegger by supplying alcohol at the state package stores back in the 1960's. I think the annual cost of a liquor license is something like $10,000. Either way, the traffic in pot or alcohol will be controlled by a group of armed men who do nothing to supply either.

Don't forget what the Tax Men get, 29% according to article. Wonder how the illegal black market will react.

I remember when I was a teen and all my friends were for the legalization of pot, the assumption was that it would be so much cheaper because it was assumed illegal pot would just naturally cost more. Kind of backfired, didn't it? Seems to me that'd make the illegal trade even stronger.

Pot is not really "legalized" in Colorado, it is under strict control of an armed gang who gets a whopping cut of the take in exchange for granting a monopoly to those few dealers who can afford to buy a license. All this graft is passed onto the consumer in the form of higher prices. A true free market in pot would bring the prices down to the level of fruit stand produce.

This is satire, not fact. Though the recreational use of pot indeed became legal in Colorado as of January 1, 2014, there were no reported deaths attributed to marijuana overdoses on New Year's Day. The above article originated from The Daily Currant, a satirical website whose disclaimer states: "Our stories are purely fictional."

This will open an interesting can of worms when people in neighboring states fail work related drug tests. If the employee tests positive for marijuana but claims to have smoked it in Colorado over the weekend, he did not violate the company policy because he was not using an "illegal drug".

Depends what that policy is. I'd bet that you see some changes to policy wording if that is the case.

Every other comment on one of Philip Gunn's Facebook post/wall was legalize pot.

Doing something about common core was the other major issue.
