im not sure who to talk to. i have an old H&R .38 revolver pistol. thats about all i know about it. it belonged to my step-grandfather's uncle and his wife had given it to my grandmother. since my step-grandfather died im really the only one in the family who cares about guns and appreciates the sentimental value of the gun, so my grandmother let me have it. i love the gun just because of who it belonged to but i would love to know more about it. i can send a picture of it if needed.

Does this pistol have a loading gate, a top break, or a pull pin to remove cylinder? A pic or any markings would help ID it.

from what Pwb posted this is the closest i can guess. Fourth Variation no patent dates the state name of Massachusetts is spelled---1916-1924

the markings on the left side of the barrel are not legible b/c of the wear on the gun. the top has
Herrington & Richardson Arms Co.

Ree I'd take it to a your gunsmith to be checked out before shooting it. He should be able to tell you more.

Btw Congrats it always good to have guns that are handed down and kept in the family.

Question (and it may be a dumb one), all of the info appears to say "5-shot" for the .38's, but I count 6 holes in the cylinder. Am I missing something?

xd i agree just really dont know anyone that i could take it to. most of the guys i know deal mainly with long guns. even if i never get to shoot it im proud of it!

dbc and rbelote it says something about 6 shot but if i read it right they are 32s and that may be what it is. like i said i dont know much about the gun
