Anybody recommend an inexpensive red dot ? It will go on an AR pistol to co-witness and A2 front sight .

They are a little more money than the range you have provided, but check out Ultradots.   The cheapest model is around $150 and the most expensive are about $250.   They are Japanese, not Chinese, and they earned their reputation as being tough, durable, and accurate sights being slide mounted on Bullseye .45 1911's.  That's quite a bit more beating than mounting one on an AR would endure.  I have two, an old 1" tube model I had on a .22 pistol for years and one of the newer Ultradot 6's that I have just on a .22 rifle and they both have been very solid.  For that matter, I'll sell you the 1" tube model for $100 assuming I can find all the accessories and you would be interested in a small tube model!   I have no experience with the newer models without tubes, but I would recommend Ultradot in general over a $100 or sub $100 Chinese red dot.  Just my $.02.

I am sure you can find better prices if you shop around, but this place shows all the models and specs.  I think it is essentially their factory store/retail outlet:  http://www.ultradotwest.com/index.htm

Do you know which mount or rings you will use?

I couldn't find a mount that fit the Ultradot 6 so I used these QD rings by Warne.  Not cheap ($47.04 dealer cost FWIW) but they are the right height to cowitness and good quality parts:  http://www.brownells.com/optics-mounting/rings-mounts-amp-bases/scope-rings/ar-15-m16-ultra-high-maxima-qd-rings-prod41028.aspx?avs|Manufacturer_1=WARNE%20MFGxzzx%20COMPANY    I am sure there are some cheaper alternatives though.

Love my Primary Arms Micro Dots... I have 3 of them, put a 4th on my dad's AR.
It does NOT co-witness, but the hole in the riser allows use of standard irons.

I got mine on sale last year for $59.99 each.

Saw a Millet on the other day I think ran around the $65 range and looked good and sturdy and I really liked that it would change the MOA on the dot from 2 to 8 i think.

I own a TRS-25.  It has been 100% on one of my ARs.
I ran that particular RDS at a carbine class instructed by Frank Proctor, and was pretty hard on it.  Fired close to 1000 rounds in the course, banged the rifle around while shooting supported on car bumpers, hoods, rocks, etc... and the sight preformed beautifully.

As far thas the comparable Primary Arms version.... Just so happens that Frank was running one during the class.  He is NOT easy on his rifles, and they get used hard.  We disscussed our cheap RDS choices, and he was fully impressed with his Primary arms sight.  He had been running it for almost a year (and still is at times I believe).

I picked up a trs-25 a few weeks ago, and honestly I can't tell a whole lot of difference in that and an junker NCstar dot i use to have.  Shooting / aiming is no different.  The cheap dot wasn't too bad about it, but zero would have to be readjusted slightly every 6 months or so.  But I'll tell you that if I don't see some major improvement in that with the bushnell (which I should), I'll keep buying the cheap stuff for everything but the rifle I'll grab when the war comes to central MS.

I've had great luck with the sightmark ultrashot. I like the ultrashot QD(quick detatch). Mine ran $100 from LGS, but I've seen them on line for $80 or so.

Edit...
This is a holo sight.

And I second what onenineoneone said about his, tough as nails in my experience.

I have a primary arms micro dot, it easily is the same quality as the vortex SPARC (have one of those too).  I have it mounted on an AK and it has held zero for 1000+rds.  It gets banged around a little too.

Oh my that was a horrible video....and so we're still left wondering, what is the difference? lol.  "The dot is a dot, and it's for turkey hunting on a shotgun...the holographic is a tactical dot and it works great on AR 15's."  Not to mention they somehow got the left and right audio channels reversed.  As a sound engineer, that drove me CRAZY!

Ha! I don't know anymore than you do. That's why I went to YouTube and posted a link. All I know is I bought an AR that came with that sightmark that I referenced, and I happen to like the heck out of it. Seems to be darn good for the money. So much so that I'm probably going to buy another.

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will drop in here.
