Re: Ruger to Produce a "Black Rifle" - AR
Ruger now has the SR-556 in 6.8 spc. I just found that out, today. After calling Ruger, and having a very upsetting phone call, they will not sell me a 6.8 spc upper. How lame is that?

I don't see how it could perform better than my Rock River NM rifle and the cost of the RR is $800 lower.

They did you a favor. This rifle has the original SAAMI spec chamber -- not the updated spec that allows hotter loads and better velocities. It's also a 1:10 twist, 6 groove, which will limit velocities unnecessarily and contribute to higher pressures. In 6.8 SPC you should be looking for SPC-II (sometimes called 6.8x43) chamber, 1:11 or 1:12 twist. There are better groove patterns as well. It's not really how many grooves that matter, but the land-to-groove ratio. But overall the best barrels are now 5R or 4 groove.
