carrying in a Pawn shop?
I stopped in a pawn shop on Friday in Forrest and they had a No Concealed Weapons sign on the door and I took mine out and went in and talked to the guy about it and he said that all pawn shops posted or not are off limits to concealed weapons with/without permits. Is this true he said that they were a Banking facility and that all banks were off limits to concealed weapons also.

I believe he is incorrect as to those that are not marked and banks. I see neither listed in Miss. Code Ann. § 45-9-101(13) and am not aware of any Federal law to that effect.

that is what I told him. I told him that I talked to a Branch Manager and he said it was perfectly legal to carry a concealed weapon in any bank that wasnt marked and he said that the Branch manager did not know the law. I looked at what he had and got out of there.

Re: carrying in a Pawn shop?
I am amazed how often the bogus "illegal to carry in a bank" garbage comes up. There is no federal law that prevents carry in a bank. Some states have a state law that prevent it, but MS is not one of them. Nothing in the law about Pawn Shops, either. As for a pawn shop being a "banking facility"? Yeah...right. And all the guys who work in pawn shops got their degrees in Financial Management!

I would bet that he knew the law and that he was just trying you to see if you knew it.
I swear, I don't know why people are afraid of law abiding citizens with carry permits.

Re: carrying in a Pawn shop?
I don't know about flagging but I really don't wanna be "swept" by a muzzle...
The #1 place to be muzzle swept....a gun shop...pawn or otherwise...I say the pawn shop was blowing smoke up your arse...find another dealer

Pawn shops have to be careful because there is alot of gun handling in them by idiots. They also get robbed alot with people saying oh check this gun out...then boom gun in your face. Can you draw fast enough when a loaded gun is stuck to your nose? Probably not...so they are really strict, so when you do start waving a gun you havent confirmed is unloaded then maybe they should probably get ready for an altercation.

Re: carrying in a Pawn shop?
This applies to all gun shops...Many I've seen have a no loaded guns sign up...its a private sign and I'm sure not enforceable except to the extent the owner could to tell you to leave...no "law" would be broken.
I've been to many gun shops were the folks behind the counter all openly carry. One of my wife's favorite jewelry places also does the same thing....
These same idiots patronize pawn shops, gun stores and other well known chain type stores....If I'm looking at a gun I watch those around me pretty closely...seldom have I had anyone in the Hinds Madison or Rankin Cty area "properly" show me a firearm...by that I mean...just show me the gun is unloaded before handing it to me...without muzzle sweeping me first....sad to say...many of the idiots...work behind the counter

Re: carrying in a Pawn shop?
Just as many people hard up for $ and down on their luck frequent these types of establishments (inside and out in the parking lot). That alone is reason enough to CC. And concealed means concealed! Not walking in and flashing your piece. I often carry in the bank and no one is the wiser. But I definately would not want to draw and show the teller just for fun. Some people dont even have walking around senseRbelote wrote: They also get robbed alot with people saying oh check this gun out...then boom gun in your face.

The "can't carry in a bank" misconception is pretty widespread for some reason. In a recent article I read there was the following:
http://www.natchezdemocrat.com/news/2010/mar/28/open-carry-gun-laws-trigger-discussion
Lots of other bad info in the article. Unfortunately, if they are being quoted correctly, some of that misinformation evidently came from LEOs. You would also think that "journalists" would at least read the law but I guess self-education is too much work for most people these days.

Laws do apply that prevent guns on school campuses, in banks or at post offices, among a few other places.

That's probably the one.The guy has a "No Concealed Weapons" sign on the door. He's a nice guy and it's his place so that's his right, but I tend to not agree with him.Not much in there anyway.

Re: carrying in a Pawn shop?
A bit off topic, but........I do armed security at a bank in Ridgeland. We have an older customer who comes in once a month. He comes to my branch because he has a "thing" for one of the loan officers who works there. He came to see her and had a pistol hanging out of his pocket. She confronted him and he said "don't worry about it". She called Madison PD (where she worked at the time) and asked if he had a permit. They checked and said no.
This customer had been in my branch several times before she told me this story...........so..............the 1st of every month, I look him up and down just a bit...

You were in DC's pawn shop. DC is a nice guy but unfortunately he deals with a lot of stupid. Owning a pawn shop in Forest makes that a necessity. He doesn't mind for honest folks carrying their guns. He's just trying to reduce the risk of stupid people doing stupid things.
Personally, I disregard "NO GUNS" signs. Just keep it covered. Your personal protection is no one else's business.

Now the other shop across the way. that guy is just wrong. looking at a 10/22 that had a broken off firing pin and he wanted $250 for it and he said that it worked just fine and I didn't know what I was talking about. I opened the bolt on it and another one and showed him the difference and he said it was a newer model. told him he was crazy and left. last time I will be going in there.

I think somebody on this board has posted this before and I kinda go by it. Concealed means concealed. I believe if you are polite and courtesy people will not bother you. If you are always fidgeting with your weapon you will draw attention to yourself. My two cents worth.
