Range Finders

Who has had good luck with which range finder?
My buddy has one that we use all the time and its been beaten to death over the years. So im planning on getting one and i want it to be a pretty good one but not break the bank.

What model does your buddy have? I am interested in one as well.

My brother has an older Bushnell, I think it is the Yardage Pro 1000. It was the biggest one they made when he got it, and it has been great. I'm not even sure how old it is, but I don't think they had been out long so it isn't new, by any means. They don't make the one he has anymore. Not sure how long ago they stopped though. It's done fine and always worked as expected. Not something that got used everyday, but it rode around in the truck, to matches, etc.

ill check it Saturday.. i cant remember for nothing.. i do know that its dead on at 700yds compared to google earth. it says its a 800yd max but i got it to range at 920 using the truck as the reflective. and then went back to the 700yd stake and ranged the trees and it showed 430yds.. Google earth shows 1140yds and the range finder showed 1130 adding 700 and 430

I've never used google earth. LOL. I have used a handheld GPS unit though which works reasonably well.

The Bushell Elite 1500 is the one i been lookin at on midwayusa.com.

Its amazing how accurate it is, i figured there was no way till we got out there with the range finder.. haha.

snipershide.com has a write up from a marine scout sniper testing the bushnell 1500. I would go with it for a budget range finder...then a leica. THen if you are like some of the ultra rich long range hunters you can look at range finders in the 10s of thousands, but the the bushy or leica will work for most of us.

My dad has the 1500. We like it.

The Bushnell 1500 looks like the same model called the PinMaster for golf. I'm very happy with mine and it tells actual yardage with elevation or declination. I don't make a living with a rifle so this is what was reasonable for my use.

Ive tried many of the rangefinders out there and was tired of the bushnell's, nikons and leupolds not performing close to what they claim on the box. Most rangefinders rated to 750-1200 yards might range a large tree from 300-400 yards, but forget about a deer. I finally broke down and bought a leica rangemaster 900. Optics are incredibly clear and even though it is only rated at 900 Yards it will easily range large trees and such at 1200-1300 yards and deer out to 600+ yards. I caught brand new on gunbroker for about 400.00.

heck just take out a a loan and get a Newcon 25000 they are good out to 25 kilometers and only cost $26,000
