Agreed. I wouldn't want to be shot with a .380. I have a TCP and I carry it more than any other during the summer. The wallet-type holster works well in my biker vest or back pocket. It has about 400 rounds down the pipe with no problems. The first 50 had a couple of FTF, but after that, its been fine.
Good deal! I was scoping out the Sig P238 or the Kahr P380 but the weight unloaded is double if not more than the TCP. Plus a $700 price tag bothers me. I'd be keeping my carry gun in the car all the time, so wherever I went I'd have my gun where I could put it in the pocket. If my car got broken into at night I'd rather have a 250 TCP stolen versus a Kahr or Sig .380.
I've watched so many youtube video reviews on the TCP that I'm pretty much sold. I mean everyone talks about how much they love the trigger pull on this gun, and the fact that it has a slide lock with last round lock back and 2 magazines really solidifies it for me.
It's beyond my logic why Ruger and Kel Tec neglected at least the slide lock feature.

As you read through this MNM topic, you very quickly become aware that being a 380 Mousegunner you are often considered to be a pariah among civilized people, not fit to mingle with polite society. If it were medieval times you’d be expected to ring a bell as you walk up the street crying, not “unclean, unclean”, but “380, 380”.
Now I may be accused of some slight exaggeration (surely not) but you know what I’m talking about.
So this is just between us .380 Mousegunners.
There’s a very interesting webpage out there that has some detailed ballistic info.
Before we get to that, you might want to view the pdf at: http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/BBTI_CCM_ND10.pdf
(This loaded a little slowly. If the first page doesn’t seem to load, just go to the next page) This is an article in the Nov/Dec, 2010, issue of Concealed Carry magazine that got me to this webpage.
OK, you’ve read that article. Now let’s go to the webpage at: http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/
I’m telling you, there’s so much in this webpage that you’d best not get started until you know you got a bunch of time freed up to really massage this stuff.
And for you .380 Mousegunners out there you might want to take an early jump to the results of the .380 Auto tests from August, 2010, at: http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/380auto2010.html
And from there you can go and look at .380 muzzle energy data at: http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/2010MEdata.xls
Pick your barrel length. Muzzle energy calculations are in red.
And while we’re jumping around before settling into a long read through the webpage take a peek at the muzzle energy graph http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/megraphs/380auto2010.html
And let’s make the final jump to:
http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/380auto2010.html
and scroll down to the “Real World Weapon” and pick yours out. I find it interesting.
Now you can click on “Home” in the webpage, and enjoy all it has to offer.
But let’s whisper here. Just between us .380 Mousegunners the webpage includes similar data for a number of other handgun calibers. Shhhhhh. Don’t tell ‘em!

Ed,
I realy enjoy reading all of your reports. This one falls in the same group. I only hope my 709 (when I get it paid off) will perform as well as you have done with this one.

Thanks, Paul, appreciate it. My ego needs a boost suffering as it is from Cabin Fever.
Couldn't find any long-johns at WalMart this morning, but I'm nevertheless just about resolved to brave the weather tomorrow and go out to the range around mid-morning.
I think I'm driving my wife nuts!

Re: My New Mousegun
Ed, I just want you to know how much I enjoy reading your posts and in particular, I have enjoyed this one quite a bit. I love .308's and carry one regularly so, "I am a Mousegunner." I've been carrying one for a long time and have never felt for my safety. It is perfectly capable of providing for my self-defense. I have admitted on more than one occasion that it is not the gun that I would ideally want in a full blown shootout but I keep a cheap, larger caliber weapon in my vehicle for that.
After reading this, I may have to add a TCP to the family. Thanks and keep it coming.

There's nothing wrong with pocket .380s carried for up close and personal self defense. They can get the job done if you can shoot them properly under stress. IMO tiny .380s are the only true pocket guns, of respectable caliber.

Doing the workup on the above posting, “How’s the DB380 Compare?”, I went back on some earlier stuff for references.
In the process I noticed in the originating posting, 4/17/10, for this My New Mousegun topic I made an error in the spec’s for the Taurus TCP 380.
In that posting I showed the barrel length as 3.3”.
I don’t know where that came from. Dumbness on my part.
The correct barrel length for the Taurus TCP 380 is 2.84” as I showed in the posting, “How’s the DB380 Compare?”.
Sorry about that.
Can I use age as an excuse?

I have owned both brands (Ruger and Taurus) over the years and am a big fan of both. I think you made a good choice, when choosing a concealed carry weapon that you will actually carry.. Congratulations on your new pistol !

Well, thank you, I do appreciate that.
I guess you've read through this thread that I cranked it up a year ago this past April and have risen and fallen with me as I've passed through a variety of trials and tribulations.
The Taurus is a good carry, in my opinion. I would not hesitate recommending it.
And thanks for the reply. It's always encouraging to realize that there's at least one person in the MS-G-O crew who might be reading my stuff.

I've been wanting a Kahr PM9 since I first saw one. Then I saw the price and just haven't gotten one because of that. Now Kahr has a CM9 that is virtually the same gun just for a little over $400 dollars. I think I'm going to go with that over a .380 but it's still better than throwing rocks.

Congratulations! Your new pistol is sized just right to slip into a front pocket and weighs little, so you won't mind carrying it. I have had only good experiences with Taurus pistols and hope you can say the same.

Always enjoy your updates Ed. My little Taurus TCP is still going strong. I had a brief spell of problems, but that was due to a spring getting out of place after I broke it down for cleaning.

You wrote, in part, "Your new pistol..." I guess this thread ought to be re-titled to "My Not-So-New Mousegun", having kicked this thread off in April 2010. But thank you anyway for your input.
Oh yes, you also commented, "I have had only good experiences with Taurus pistols and hope you can say the same.” Welllll, unfortunately there has been an alienation of affections between my Taurus 1911 9mm and me. I've relegated it to a dark cobwebby corner of the gun safe with the hopes it will mend its ways. We'll see. For more on that Taurus 1911 go to: http://www.msgunowners.com/t4188p140-9mm-1911-s, postings 3/29/11 ff.
Again, thanks for the input.
