Re: Fun little 22 farm gun
I have a Ruger Single Six.
I've got to tell you it has lots of features that annoy me (well, they did until I replaced the factory parts).
In general, I have come to hate single action revolvers because they are a pain to reload (one hole at the time.)
And I have not checked, but a new Ruger or S&W will likely exceed your budget.
You will hear complaints about Taurus, but I have liked them just fine.
Their web site is down right now.
With your budget look at a double action Taurus .22 revolver.

Ruger 22/45!!!!! I love mine and it is far more accurate than I am! They come with 2 ten round mags and scope rail if you want to go that route. My sights were way off from the factory, but once I sighted them, she hits what I point her at! Grip angle and controls are very similar to 1911, which is why I bought it. I gave $220 +tax for mine, brand new! The walther p22 is a fun one also, but don't think it would serve your "critter-getter" purpose.

Re: Fun little 22 farm gun
any Ruger will do. that is all I know in 22 pistols. I am sure there are some others out there but I will stick with my Rugers MkIII and Single Six. can't beat either one of them.

Ruger Single Six, love 'em...have 3. Or a Ruger 22/45. Both handguns are in your price range, albeit the S Six might have to be a used one. You might even score a convertible Six thereby offering the .22 magnum cylinder as an option as well.

I hope that's not your target pistol in your avitar.

I like the Single Six for versatility as well.

Go to galleryofguns.com and look at different models. Direct yourself to GunGenie and you can see all by brand, model, caliber, pistol, revolver. Easy to move around and I have dealt with them several times. And yes the Rugers are very good.

I got to shoot this at M&G, really nice .22 for less than my AA conversion kit cost. Worth checking out for sure!

Re: Fun little 22 farm gun
Blued Single Six. I have a convertable one but I have chronographed the .22 LR and Mag ammo and there is very little difference in velocity. The powder used in .22 Mag ammo is made for rifles and the short barrel lets a lot of powder go unburned. Also a mark II Ruger .22 semi auto can't be beat.
