So there was a knock at the door...

Post by crossedcannons45 on Thu Apr 29, 2010 3:32 pm

...A loud knock at that and one of the girls was taking her nap but after looking through the peephole my wife couldnt see anyone so we didnt reply, then the deadbolt turned and unlocked! We have another deadbolt without an outside keyhole so this guy still had that to contend with before he got in. This is the point where I drew my gun and pointed it about chest level at the door and asked "who is it?" "Maintenance" I'm sure the guy could hear me "deflate" as I reholstered and unlocked the second deadbolt. That guy almost had the worst day of his career. I'm going to speak with the property manager about giving us notification about things like this so no one gets hurt.

I'm beginning to think that apartment life isnt for me

Most of the time they will knock. Say maintanence a few times then open the door. Its a shame he was just gonna walk in...be sure to indentify your target first.

Some of my worse times was apartment living ... had a couple S&W 19s stolen back in the late 70's ... never enough room, walking up stairs, and having to put up with the other apartment dwellers ... had enough a long, long time ago ...

I know what you mean. I figured that out back in '77. Glad your not behind bars answering questions about why you shot the maintenance man!

Glad nothing bad came about from that situation. Kind of scary to have someone entering your apartment unscheduled.

When I was single and lived in an apartment up in St. Louis I'd often keep my door unlocked when I was at home so the neighbors could drop in. One night I was sitting on the couch dry firing my 1911 and in walks a complete stranger. Poor guy started crying and was stuttering so bad I couldn't understand a word he was saying. I never pointed it at him, but he lost it when he thought I was armed and about ready to shoot him.

After getting him calmed down I found out he was a new tenant on the floor directly above me who made a mistake with the level and thought he was walking into his own place. Never got to know him, but he was always a very quiet neighbor Shocked .

After reading through this, I just about fell over with laughter after that... Wow, that made my day.

I'm gad it turned out like it did. Could have been much worse. That maintenance man probably should get "not so use" to just entering apts without properly making himself known.

I am in the middle of a move to Houston and I'm living in an apartment provided by my company. I keep my Glock 19 ready to go and on the bed side table every night. Anyone comes through the front door uninvited will have a very bad day/night. Apartment living is not for me. Can't wait to find a house.
