Problems with a new rifle

After much research and penny saving I made a decision to purchase a new rifle. I went to a local gun shop and purchased a Savage Model 10 Predator Hunter Max 1 chambered for .243. I also purchased a Nikon Monarch 4-16 x 42 scope, along with scope rings, a matching sing, a rifle case and an assortment of reloading paraphernalia and supplies. After I got the rifle home I opened the bolt and dry fired it a few time...the rifle is a tad heavy but well balance and the trigger is light as a feather...however, after a couple of cycles the trigger stuck and would not budge until I recycled the bolt again...also when looking through the scope I notice what appeared to be a small hair on the lower right corner of the scope...turns out it was a scratch on the lens. This really sucks....brand new Savage rifle and Nikon scope and both were defective...I took the rifle and scope back to the gun shop and the sales personnel were very apologetic and indicated that it was rare to have a malfunction or problem with a Savage rifle...everything I've studied about Savage rifles indicate that they are accruate and good quality rifles. I have several friends who either own or have owned a Savage and have all spoken very highly of them. For my first experience with purchaseing a Savage this is a little disconcerting...another rifle was ordered and will be in on Monday...they had a replacement scope in stock. The gun shop staff were great and their store has an empressive supply of firearms and related supplies (..talk about Viagra and eye candy for a gun nut..) I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the replacement rifle and scope will preform as advertised.

I'll have to agree, problems with Savage and Nikon are rare. However, you now know you can rely on the customer service of your gunshop and manufacturers.

What gun shop is it? Sounds like they need a thumbs up
My next rifle will be a Savage 308 model 12?

+1 to that, even the high priced stuff has one slip through the cracks now and then...at least they are doing right by you.

I like my savage 12. to me 308 is just the best round for any shooting in Mississippi, weather its hunting or target. I just HATED leaving the F class last weekend. 900.00 was an awsum price. but, we got too much going on right now.

Van's Sporting Goods in Brandon...the defective products were not their fault and they remedied the problem immediately... I've shopped for sporting goods products there in the past and have never been disappointed with their service. Before I ordered the Model 10 Max 1 I was attempting to locate a Model 10 FCP-K in .308 ... the sales staff made several efforts to locate one ... each time they thought they had one it turned out to be the wrong model... but they would contact me by phone each time to let me know what they found out...as it turns out that particular model is very much in demand and is about as scare as hen's teeth...Van's will definitely get future business from me.
