STUPID ME - Trying to load 40 S&W for the 1st time...

Post by SubGunFan on Sat May 01, 2010 9:11 pm

Last night I took the brass out of the tumbler (after 24 hours) and this morning I was all excited about loading my first 40 S&W ammo using my cast bullets. Everything was ready to go... I thought....

I have these.............

And these.................

And the powder and primers. But during the setup of my Dillon 550 I realized I don't have a 40cal taper crimp die.

STUPID ME ! ! !

Well, tonight I made a Midway USA order to solve this MISTAKE. I am hoping to have the die in time to load some 40 S&W ammo for M&G 2.....

However.... On a bright side (maybe), I did find a LEFT-HAND holster for my XD-40 Tactical. Being a Lefty with a 5" XD, holster selection is LIMITED.... We will see.....

When I use my Thumbler tumblers (barrel type) I tumble for 24 hours. Put the brass in one night and take out the next. Usually the brass will come out with a mirror bright finish, but lately the media/polish combo I am using is leaving a slight satin finish on the brass. I need to find out what is causing that......... I don't like it.

Yes, I still crank up the concrete mixer now & then for large batches of brass. I run the mixer for 2-3 hours.

Hey Captain & Neck.......

Get off $250 + $75 and buy a Star Lube/Sizer and heater. Oh yeah, and about $40 for a die & punch. Then you can use ALL the PRETTY COLOR lubes. Plus you can work with bevel-base bullets.

I know, the "investment" is pretty high........ But the Star cost has held constant for MANY years....... Go Figure...... Smile

Keep an eye on the Internet for a used Star. I would say not many will be FOR SALE, but you might get lucky...........

Probably right , SGF!! Just too much of an investiment right now; especially since I got two RCBS Lube/Sizers and one does have a heater. Been using one of 'em for 25+ years ... many thousands through it .... but, I am gonna get some of that blue stuff!! It is purty!!
