Considering a switch to lead bullets

I am currently debating whether or not to switch to lead bullets for my .45 ACP.

I can buy about 1500 lead bullets for the price of 1000 jacketed bullets.

I just don't like the idea of having to scrape lead out of the barrel, is this a big concern?

Also, what are the pro's and cons of both?

been shooting www.missouribullets.com and www.bayoubullets.net for a while now and have very little problem from leading. I really like the bayou bullets

V, I have shot upwards of 10-15K lead bullets from 5 separate pistols and I have never had to scrape lead out of the barrel. That said, if you push lead TOO fast, leading in the barrel will occur. I have ss bore brushes and a couple of trips in and out and you would never believe it had been shot. I like the lead bullets so much I cast my own saving even more money. BTW if leading gets too hard to clean out, shoot a few jacketed bullets thru, they clean easily then. Go get some, load some and shoot some. Mac

Now I just need to decide which bullet.

I just ordered 2000 200 gr LSWC from Missouri Bullet Company. The consensus from searching the net is that they feed in all 1911's and there is plenty of good load data.

Cost me $138 which is only $20 more than 1000 230 gr FMJ normally cost me.

Don't think you will load a 45acp hot enought to worry about leading -- IF - you have a good bullet seat .... what diameter bullets does the Missouri offer ... I would suggest .452 if you get an option ..

I shoot Doug Bowser's lead bullets. I consider the cost negligible. Also, you will NEVER wear out a pistol barrel with lead bullets.

I got them in .452, which is the only size they sell.

I would love the shoot Nick Vrana lead bullets but I just don't have the time.

Good -- several offer .451 which is usually too small for most .45s; being smaller, they tend to permit "gas blow-by" around the bullet as it travels down the barrel producing leading ....

I own 3 .45ACPs ... A springer, a Colt, and a Glock with a lone wolf barrel. I size to .452 in the springer and Colt and to .451 for the Glock. Have some feeding problems with the LW barrel in the Glock when trying to feed .452s - also, the LW barrel requires a rather tight taper crimp be applied.
