38 and 9mm bullet question

Post by nonnieselman on Mon May 03, 2010 11:41 am

I found some bullets that i had bought from a guy with some reloading equipment.

Some are 9mm 115gr hp the others arent marked so i got out my manual and found the sizes of each bullet..

I never knew how close a 9mm .355 and a 38spl .357 really was.. it never occurred to me.

So i started thinking, what would happen if one loaded some 9mm bullets in a 38 case. Dont think it would seal up too good in the bore..

I done it with cast boolits ... results will all depend on the diameter of the boolit. The smaller (.355 / .356) sucks ... wanted to lead the barrel and accuracy was terrible. May need to put a tighter crimp on them to keep them from backing out of the case upon recoil.

Yes, leave the .355 & .356 bullets to 9mm/380/38 Super/etc. and use .357 (jacket) and .358 (lead) for 38 Spl / 357 Mag.
