M1 GARAND SIGHT

Post by dhollis51 on Mon May 10, 2010 2:02 pm

Alright I shot my M1 this weekend with Capt and M1Garandfan and it was a blast. so my question is on the sight, we were shooting at 200 yards and M1GF told me to move it up 14 clicks to start out with and then adjust. how many clicks up do you start with 50yds, 100yds and what about all the way down? where is that set on?

Thanks again to Capt and M1GF for helping me to get her greased up and ready to fire.

When I start to sight in an M1, I usually go for the 100yrd mark .. adjust the sight all the way down, then center it, then crack it up 8 clicks and shoot. Adjust from there.

I would suggest The M-1 Grarand: Owner's Guide by Scott Duff. It has a lot of great and useful information about the rifle, including the history, how it functions, dates for the serial numbers, and how to zero in the rifle and cleaning and maintenance.https://estore.odcmp.com/store/catalog/catalog.aspx?pg=product&ID=711&item=&sfv=&cat=BKS&desc=&udc=&mct=&vndr=&ba=&pmin=&pmax=&note1=&note2=&note3=&note4=&note5=&max=
He also wrote one on M-1 Carbines as well.

Take a look at these -- some are interesting and includes links to the army manuals:

I usually go up from the bottom 9 clicks and set at mechanical zero at 100 yards. Sight in from there at 100 yards and add clicks for ranges as follows

Basic come-ups for the Service Grade M1 Garand Rifle

100-200 yards add 2 MOA clicks

200-300 yards add 3 MOA Clicks

300-400 yards add 3 MOA clicks

400-500 yards add 4 MOA clicks

500-600 yards add 5 MOA clicks

These sight settings have worked for me with USGI .30 M2 Ball and .30-06 168 gr reloads.

They are a guide line, not to be considered for final zero. In a HP rifle match you get 2 sighters before each stage of fire.

Thanks for the rough dope on the Garand, Doug.

I'd been meaning to ask around here about that myself.

Now I need to go write it down and put it in the case w/ my M-1 so I'll have it when I need it.

thumbs up
