I have my old TC Hawken from the '70's and a Lyman GPR .54 Flyntlock. Is there any clubs associated with BP in Mississippi?

I guess I'm a Thompson Center kinda guy. I have 2 TC .50 cal Hawkens,a TC .50 cal White Mountain Carbine,a TC .50 cal New Englander,a TC .50 cal Grey Hawk and another Hawkens with a Green Mountain .32 cal barrel. I try to shoot at least once a week.I just started shooting real Black Powder.Cleaning isn't really much harder than cleaning any other gun if you know what you're doing.I love it

I love black powder revolvers, but they are definitely a PITA to clean. I've found that using full strength Simple Green, a little brushing, and a final rinse with scalding water is an efficient and easy way to do it. Follow that by putting the cylinder and barrel in the oven on 200 degrees till the metal is hot and all moisture is dry, followed by a light oiling.
I got a brass framed .36 1851 Colt Navy replica when I was 15 and still have it. Then there are two 1851 steel frame replicas, an 1861 Police .36 and a pair of 1860 .44 Army revolvers. I shoot all of them, though not often.
Last night I bought the rifle I've been waiting for most of my life, a .54-caliber Shiloh Sharps Model 1863 rifle. Spent today scrounging up loading supplies, so with any luck I'll be able to bring it to the Meet & Greet in May. Probably won't have more than half a dozen paper cartridges loaded (not many bullets on hand), but I have casting supplies coming from Midway.

For cleaning BP revolvers:
1/4 cup Murphy's Oil Soap concentrate to 1 gallon water. Swab the bore with a saturated patch, swab the chambers of the cylinder, remove the nipples first and clean them. Dry everything off and lightly oil the exterior. I can clean a C&B revolver as easily as a modern CF revolver. I have 5 C&B revolvers and I have been using this method for 10 years with great success.

Alot of folks don't enjoy cleaning those blackpowder firearms...I enjoy it though.
I use a flush tube on my little flintlock longrifle with pinned barrel...gets it done quick. Using the flush tube on my Hawken style caplocks about the only time saved is what it takes to remove the barrel wedges and pop it out.
Doug on my revolvers I use to always use soap and water...then for some reason or another just started using glass cleaner with vinegar a few years back. It's no quicker by any means...guess I just wanted to spend more time with them.

About the only action mine see these days are turtle killing from the seat of the tractor...might say like doing a drive-by.
