What do you guys have and any suggestions on a stock for a long range rifle??

my custom 7mm has a Bell&Carlson w/Deaccelarator that I like. It feels solid when you pick it up not like most composite stocks I seen. Price is fair on them as well. Other than that, I like good ole American Walnut.

long range rifle or benchrest style long range rifle. First step in picking a stock is to know what your need is. If you plan on a hunting rifle that you will be carry alot in the field then a f-class style large bulky (sometimes heavy) stock wont fit your need. here is my set up on the two main guns i deer hunt with.
1- titanium action rem700 in 7-08 with a lightweight factory stock on it. I think it is a H&S stock i may be wrong on that it does have aluminum bedding block. w/ bushnell elite 6500 2x14x42 total rifle weighs in at around 7.5 lbs
2- Custom rem 700 300 win mag.27" #7 Kriger barrell, Mcmillian HTG Adjustable stock w/ a 6.5x20x50 w/ nightforce rings and bases. Total rifle weighs in at 13.5 lbs unloaded.
I carry the 7-08 the most often even though the custom will out shoot it any day of the week. The 300 comes out when i am hunting and having shots past 400 yards OR dont have far to walk to the stand.

I prefer Mcmillan, RObertsons composites, and HS precision. Yet there are guys on long range hunting.com that make laminate A-5 clones for cheap if you want a pistol grip.

Its gonna be for long range.. ha.. no benchrest style stuff. Its gonna be thrown around and pretty much a good shooting beater rifle.
Really dont want a wood stock, never liked them. and if i drop the rifle (yea it happnes) i dont want to have a broken stock.

Acutally happend to my friends R700 7-08, dropped it and split the stock and broke it into.

I actually liked the choate stock, i have one on my R700 .22-250 but its only a 500yd gun.


If my factory plastic stock .270 will do .6moa at 600yds and 1.2moa at 1000, i cant wrap my mind around why a alum bedded free floating stock of different brands makes that big of a difference.

Im still on the look out for a stock.. havent made my mind up yet cause i dont have my barrel or scope yet..

sometimes the luck of the draw swings in your favor. i once had a remington sendaro in 300 win mag that would shoot .5moa pretty regularly w/ 180 noslar bt handloads. I was and idiot and sold it. I have tried to buy it back on numerous occasions and he will not sale.

my thought in shooting for longrange accuracy you have to chance dimishing returns. Each change made increases accuracy a small percentage until the overall change makes for a damn accurate rifle. you weight the options of each change for what increase they can give you. may want to change trigger to a jewell or upgrade rings and bases or optics. Sounds like that gun has a great chamber and a good barrell from the factory.... most dont.

Have you taken your remington apart yet?

Yea ive taken it apart a few times cleaning the grit out of it and adjusting the trigger a few times.

YOu are extremely lucky then. Alot of factory rifles that shoot that good wont after they have been taken apart. Eddybo has been having bad headaches lately so he hasnt be able to shoot, but he is the man you need to try to connect with to really understand rifles.

I did try to put a Jard trigger up grade in it and was beating on the reciever tryin to get the pins out so mabye thats what helped

Man your as bad as I am. You would drive a benchrest shooter nuts doing stuff like that.

I finally got the waterhose after my .22-250.. thats a heck of a way to clean a gun i tell ya..

That friday it snowed we went riding 4wheelers and it stayed on my back the whole time.. I went to take it off to shoot a crow and well lets just say i wasnt all that clean.
