Cleaning process
I would like to know what people use and how they clean their precision rifles. I have heard you should only push the jag through then take it off and pull the rod back out. Same thing with brass or nylon brushes.

Re: Cleaning process
I've cleaned this rifle bore twice since I've built it. Once after the first 150 rounds and once again at 553 rounds. This 10 shot group represents rounds 942-951 down the tube. I'll probably put a patch or two through it at 1000 if I have a match coming up, otherwise I don't clean till I see accuracy fall off. Want to kill an accurate barrel? Clean it too often or improperly!
Generally I let some Break free foaming bore cleaner sit in the barrel for a couple of hours, push a patch through, run a brush with Butches Bore shine through for a few passes, let sit for 5 min., push a patch through. Run a couple wet patches with Rem Oil and then a couple of dry patches. That will get just about everything.

Re: Cleaning process
always interesting to discuss cleaning of precision rifles. I do belive you can do more damage than good by improper cleaning methods. I clean quite a bit more than Ritten, but hard to argue with a damn fine group as shown above. I use a bore guide, butchs bore shine, remove cleaning patch after pass through. clean until i see no residue on patch, finish off with touch of gun oil and a fouling shot.
PS: I love the look of that website backgroup pic Ritten that looks sharp.

I agree with Ritten. You can over clean a gun. If you need to clean more than usual you are using some dirty ammo.
