need HELP id'ing

Post by kowen1971 on Sun Jun 20, 2010 4:39 pm

My father passed a gun to me when I was 13 yrs old. I had actually forgotten all about it till recently. The gun is unfireable and missing the stock. It is a double barrel muzzle loader purchased, according to my father, shortly after the civil war by my great great great grandfather who fought with the confederacy. Can anyone tell me about id'ING a gun this old. There are no visible numbers or markings anywhere on the gun as far as I can see. The forearm is still on it and in excellent shape. Can't post pics with my phone but can e-mail them if needed.

It could be any one of many gun makers during that period. The confederacy used all types of arms and ammo. PM sent with email address.

Could be anything from anywhere .. try to get some pictures posted ... certainly there are some proof marks on it somewhere; measure the bore diameters .... without pictures, this is almost impossible ...

I will cap. I can only send pics VIA e-mail from my phone at home. I can try to get pics on here sometime next week if I can find someone to help me out. LOL... The bores look to be about 3/4 in top to bottom and side to side as my cheap little tape measure is reading...

Removed the forearm. Found the number 70 on the barrel and also the number 70 on the back of the actual forearm.
