How about a "Roadtrip" to Anniston this Fall?

Post by shoeshooter on Sun Jul 04, 2010 11:19 pm

I still got this M1 Carbine itch I've yet to scratch. It seems a shame to NOT go to CMP since we're relatively close.

Is anybody else interested in going in, say, September? I know that is too far out to really commit to, but I'd like to how many, if any, would consider it. Thinking about a Saturday, leave Jackson about 7, get there noonish, head back when they close at 3. Right at 300 miles. Could make a stop in Meridian if some from that area want to go.

I'll volunteer my minivan, seats six pretty comfortably with room for some goodies. If a bunch want to go could maybe rent a 15 passenger van.

Of course we really need one of our resident military arms experts to go to provide proper guidance. Not mentioning any names, you know who you are Razz

Whatcha' think, guys?

I'll pitch in for gas, let me know. Wouldn't mind the Captain going as an "advisor". I'd buy his lunch.

If you bring guns back...you gotta pay MS sales tax....It cheaper to pick em out there...then have em shipped to you...

unless you just need to "hold her" on the way home

If they had any Rockola's I'd go...but they aint gonna have any

Sounds like a winner to me -- I am interested; however, if we wait until September, I suspect there will be NO Carbines to be had .... I am told told they are getting close to depleting their inventory and perdict they will sell out his summer.

Also, you do not pay MS sales tax, you pay sales tax for Anniston, AL which is now 9.25%. Depending on the price of the goods you buy, it may be cheaper to buy it and then have CMP ship to your home. Shipping for rifles is $22.95.

Hey Capt., you get "shotgun". How's the knee?

Hmmm...Mid-August maybe? Need to build the gun wallet a tad, among other things. Do they ship quick when you buy in person?

Ok Thx for the correction...I knew you had to pay the tax man if you took delivery there...wrong state lol

sounds like we need to go ahead and go soon or we will all be crying one day and taking trips down memory lane of the good ole days of sub 1k Garands and Carbines

No new guns added in this household over the past month ... Hopefully after this Wednesday the knee will be fine!!

They ususally ship the next day after you purchase .. overnight FedEx!!

Well, Capt., I meant you get to RIDE shotgun due to your status as "Senior Expert Service Rifle Selection Advisor ". Ain't it nice when you get "Volunteered"?

Just checked the CMP website, looks like the choices won't be hard...only Underwood & NPM left. I think the store selection may/can/does vary though? Not much in Garands either. Makes you wonder what the future holds, how are they going to support the infrastructure they've built up.

What date are you planning on going? I'll help with the gas or what ever is needed, I teach school and can only go on a Saturday after school starts. Please keep me posted.
Thanks,
Mike

I come up with a 2 or 3 proposed dates tomorrow and run 'em up the proverbial flagpole. "Rusty Kimber" would be a great name for a ballplayer. I think I'll use it if I ever need an alias Smile

Who's in for when?

Come on, guys & gals, the more the merrier.

Either is OK for me; however, I would recommend Wednesday because the selection of guns would be better. The store is open Wed-Sat and they usually restock AFTER Saturday ..

August 4th or August 14th? Second request for votes on a date. If you've been wanting a Garand or Carbine, this is the time to get one, and CMP south Store is the place.

http://www.thecmp.org/southstore.htm

The requirements for purchasing from them aren't too tough, just a few little hoops to jump through.

http://www.thecmp.org/eligibility.htm

Compare their prices to what you see at gun shows and on the 'net and you'll find it's worth the effort. Plus, they ain't making any more of them, so now's the time.

The train is fixin' to leave the station, who's going to jump aboard?

Are we talking a day trip -- over and back on same day? Wed is the best day if we can pull it off ... better selection ...
