Re: Classifier Match in Byram on 8/1
Thanks for the advice on weak hand shooting. Didn't even think on that.
Yeah, the steel I shot last month wore me out. I knew I needed to hydrate before hand for the next match and then I saw it on news a couple days later to drink about four cups of water before getting out there and before you feel thirsty, wish I'd thought about that before hand. I only had a glass of water when I left the house.

Better be practicing off hand shooting...every classifier I ever shot had some...it can be quite a surprise for ya if you have not prepared...which I had not done...it was like you want me to do what?....
course what we are talking about here is a whole match I think which is diff. than what I did last summer...then it was just a classifier stage at each match...
Kicked my butt just the same...practice strong hand to off hand transition also...
John can come up with some doozie classifier stages...best be practicing

Classifier matches are great if you have just joined or are thinking about joining. The stages aren't as fun to me as locally designed field courses, but I like them for the challenges they present. They also generally setup with fewer props and score and reset more quickly which helps for a match in August.
No one will be laughing. A lot of people struggle weak hand, and there is really only one way to get better - working on it. If you can't get to the range before the match, some time spent dry firing weak hand can help a lot.

Mhead I don't know if you know it but in ss the trigger guard has to be level with your belt. Just so happen we were talking about this the other day.

Yeah I know , and my leather one does but it's got a snap on it and it's not very fast , especially when you get used to a DOH Bladetech .

SS is a whole nother world in USPSA............ you better get more mags first cause they tend to need a lot more in that division for some reason (feeding issues).

Never had any feeding issues the only issues with SS is less bullets more mag changes . I shot SS the first 6 months when I started just couldn't afford to keep buyin 45's .

I am a newb to this and was thinking about coming by to check out the match Sunday, I have never done competitive shooting but very interested in checking it out. What time does it begin and is it at the gun club in Byram? I would most likely come watch and see about doing a shoot the next time around if ok. Thanks guys!

Thanks for the info! Is there an entry fee? I will bring a pistol and gear and just might do that. Thanks

Just for clarification, the rule reads that the "entire front strap [of the grip] (to the trigger guard) [must be] at or above the top of the belt." Female shooters must carry the handgun "no lower than the heel of the butt at the top of the belt." Appendix D5, #20.
As for entry fee, normally your first match at Magnolia is free. However, the club is charged more by national headquarters if more than one classifier is shot, so this match will cost the club significantly more than a regular match. Therefore, I believe everyone will pay an entry fee for this match. If you shoot, let John know it is your first match and you can get a rain check so your next match there will be free. The match fee will probably be $10-$15. For those that want to, you can register online at www.teammagnolia.com under the competition tab.
Spectators are welcome, but do understand that with this being a "special classifier" match, the stages are a little different than a typical monthly match. I'm just saying don't judge it all from this match. You'll have to come back out again sometime.
I hate I am going to miss this one, but I am up in West Virgina for work. I did bring my stuff though and if the weather holds out, I am hoping to get to shoot a local match up here Sunday which should be interesting. Hope the match there goes well.
