Re: F-Class - Bi-pods and rear bags
My last job we got a bunch of really uncomfortable Fire Retardant blue jeans that no body liked... Well when i left that job i took all mine home.
My sandbags are made from the legs of them
It was free and works great!

Haven't shot a match but have done some reading. I'm sure the guys that have the experience will be along shortly, but until then, instead of a Harris, check out one of these from Sinclain Intl. made specifically for F-Class, availabe in

or

I believe x-ring uses one of these? I know I have seen one of them pictured on a member's rifle here.

A lot of people use the Harris 6-9" swivel bipod. Some use the Sinclair F-Class. It is what works best for you. I started using the Harris but didn't like the way it hopped every time I broke a shot.
Using the Harris you have to preload it or lean into it and grip the rifle pretty tight at the back to help control recoil. The bipod always tried to skoot away from me, some would replace the feet with pod claws to get a better grip but some ranges have concrete firing lines. I built mine similar to the Sinclair, with that type you let the rifle recoil as long as you have it set-up to recoil straight back. Get a rear bag that your butt stock will fit in the ears all the way to the bottom nice and snug. One with stiff walls that won't roll around on you because you don't want to have to fight it to keep it in position during your string. Fill it with heavy sand that you can get from Sinclair.

That's the 411 I'm looking for....I have noticed my small 308 jumping quite a bit off the bi-pod...Of course the whole gun scope included only weighs 7 lbs and is not F-class material anyway...some of the other "toy's coming down the pipe might make the grade however and so I'm thinking about what to get...
I was kinda hoping you'd offer to fab one for me.....
Guess I need to shoot a match or two first...

Re: F-Class - Bi-pods and rear bags
I'm stuck with a Harris BRM-S because I'm too cheap to spend $200 on a Sinclair. To tell the truth, until this thread, I'd never heard/seen the Sinclair bipod. I wonder how long it takes to set up for a shot.
For a rear bag, cheeep is my middle name. And I'm lazy, too. I hate carryin' all that weight around. I use a nylon sock that'll expand a lot. I filled it with plastic beads (for making necklaces) that can be bought at the hobby stores. My rear bag prolly weighs about 6 ounces, and is "waterproof"--not like rice or sand -filled cloth sacks. The 'right' amount of beads lets ya mold the bag to the rifle butt.
I've never had trouble with bouncin', but I only shoot laying in the grass or a shooting mat (carpet remnant). It will bounce on a milsurp bedroll.

I put a lot of work in that one that Neck now has, I relized it would be cheaper to just buy the Sinclair.

Don't know F-class but some military uses empty bags. Fill it full of sand on site, empty when you leave. Works in the sandbox but I don't know your range, I guess weight's not that important.

I'm getting into the "accuracy" thing. I want the best bipod I can get. I'll probably end up with a Harris.

I used to shoot a Harris, went to the Sinclair and my scores improved. A good investment for accuracy and control.

Panty hose with mardi-gras beads.......makes for a lighter range bag IMO.....
I like the blue jean idea...gonna try when I get in.
