Man, the turnout was great. As section coordinator, I get the numbers from all of the clubs and I have seen the growth at Pearlington over the last year or so.
I haven't checked, but I am almost certain that was the largest local match of 2010 in the State. I know Team Magnolia/Jackson has had 50 once and 40's a time or two this year, and y'all got close to 50 earlier this year too, but 53 is impressive. It's good to see the interest and growth in the sport as well as just people having fun shooting. Incidentally, this year was the biggest Mississippi Classic State match ever with nearly 200 shooters (it has been held since 1996), so shooting overall appears to be up in this region.
I'll be back for another match when I can for sure. The gas money was nice, but I'd be fine with a dollar or two less entry fee and no payout, too. I'm there because I enjoy it, and a healthy club and members is the most important thing to keep matches going. It definitely appears that you guys are doing something right, so keep it up!
A little bit of dirt work would be nice sometime down the road, but I have no idea if that is possible or not. It could make setup easier as well as add the ability to safely run 5 stages at the same time. Just a thought.

Re: pearlington match
we already throwing around some ideas for other "burmed" areas for additional stages to be setup. my idea would be to build a few 25yd lots and we could have stages at each. Tom knows and we're looking at it.
I think I may have 1 or 2 more new shooters next month, but not sure yet. My thinking or "pitch" is to tell them: you can stand there and punch hole in paper or you can learn to shoot, move, reload, and have fun all at the same time. Heck it might save your life knowing how to reload fast oneday or shoot from behind cover.
I'm addicted, most are though that shoot USPSA for some reason.
We there to have fun and enjoy a little competition

I will be at pearlington again next month that's for sure. I have to get rid of one of my other hobbies in order to really get into this or I'd be at a lot more of them. I'm trying to remember whm the woolmarket one is so I can get more practice. I def need more.

That's great to hear on the berms and new shooters.
I also agree with your pitch. The high speed gun handling and confidence hitting targets quickly is great and it is tough to learn without some kind of pressure such as can be found at a match. Most importantly though, it's an adrenaline rush and just plain fun!
Lt.Dan, I have never shot at Woolmarket but I have seen a website for them. I was thinking this is it but the site appears to be down. http://gcrpc.com/ Sorry I am not more help. I know it is not a USPSA match so the rules and match will be a little different. Still may be fun though.

Re: pearlington match
they don't have a USPSA match at woolmarket, they do 3-gun there I know. They do have matches up in Poplarville on 2nd Sunday of the moth off Hwy26 between Poplarville and Wiggins.

Re: pearlington match
I was thinking they shot a handgun match of some sort in Woolmarket too.
The Poplarville [2nd Sunday] club's website is here: http://smsps.com/SMPSA.htm
Mobile Practical Shooters shoot near Vinegar Bend, Alabama (north of Citronelle) on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month, and their website is here:http://mpsa.us/
There are also matches in Thibodaux and Amite, Louisiana, and their website is here (CAS and TPS): http://lagator.org/
Those are probably the closest. Matches in Jackson (actually Byram), including the State Championship Mississippi Classic every May, are hosted by www.teammagnolia.com

Spanky, y'all should have rolled with cliff since the rain got you. I really expected to see "Spanky and The Gang" there. Y'all are always welcome.

Re: pearlington match
I wish I could have. I'm on weekend nights right now so I couldn't swing driving all the way out there and back by myself on no sleep.
Woolmarket is 2nd Saturday
The woolmarket match is 2nd Saturday, be there at 8:30. It is NOT USPSA, more like a speed match, so bring your high caps. PM me for more info on that match.
