.22 conversion unit AR
I'm not really familiar with blogs, but here goes. I bought a targetmaster .22 conversion at the July gunshow in Jackson. Does not work properly. shoots two to four times then fails to eject... always a live round in chamber and empty stuck in receiver or stove-piped. Shooting a Bushmaster ORC. Have tried three magazines and four types of ammo; and cleaned and oiled the unit. Any more suggestions? I guess I'll call the mfg. tomorrow

I think subgunfan bought the same unit at the gunshow. I was at the range when he first fired it and actually put a few down range with it myself. Functioned without a problem that I saw with a couple different type ammo ... Don't remember what make AR he was using ... maybe he will chime in on this one ...

I called Jim Darden, who sold the unit, works for the company (may be the owner); said he would send me a new unit, along with his UPS code to return the old one. Couldn't have been any nicer, offered to return my $$ if I wasn't satisfied.

Re: .22 conversion unit AR
Was this a used kit? One of the problems, besides a certain brand ammo that functions well, is that rimfires are not made to be dry fired. Since rimfire firing pins hit the edge of the cartridge, firing without a round in the chamber causes the firing pin to hit the chamber edge. Enough of this and you will have a small ding that doesn't allow a round to chamber or when fired and the round expands a little, the cartridge won't pull out of the chamber account that small ding holding on. I have taken some .22's and removed that ding allowing the gun to cycle properly. Check for that ding if it is used.

The only thing better than that is to have it work right out of the box ... Let us know how it turns out ...

Hey Judge:
Like Captain said, I too bought a Target Master 22RF AR-15 conversion at the last gunshow. The first ammo I tried was Fed. Champion, and like you stated, was getting a few "live round in chamber and stovepiped brass" jams. But only 1 or 2 per mag. I then tried Rem. Golden Bulllets and those ran almost 100%. I was shooting my Oly "Shortie". Have not tried the unit in other ARs yet.

I bought one of those rigs too. I first tried Walmart cheapos and they didn't want to run. Then I put the Federal Champions that the fellow gave me when I bought it and they didn't run either.
DPMS Sportical.
I was going to try it again before I give it a complete pan.

To further the saga of the Targetmster... They sent me another unit. It doesn't run any better in my Bushmaster carbine than the first ( had 15 failures out of 50 shells) , but it shoots pretty regularly in my EA-15 A-2 with the 20" barrel. I'm going to talk with the manufacturer again on Monday. There must be an issue with the recoil spring.
