I do not know how I missed this thread ... I purchased one of the Marlin 917V from the Walmart in Madison when they were selling guns .... it does have the heavy barrel ... I LOVE IT!! It is probably the most accurate rifle I have in the house -- with the right ammo .... Have one of the BSA Sweet 17 scopes on it and it is deadly accurate.

I have shot squirrel with both the 22Mag and the 17HRM -- the 17 will cut them into -- I do mean 2 pieces!!

I'm looking for a bolt action .22 with a tubular mag (faster to reload) and after that it's a lever action.

XD, i totally under stand where your coming from... i have the marlin 917 w/ the heavy barrel and love it to death, extremely accurate and durable, but i just wish that they made it in a 22 because the .17's are way too expensive. thinking

OK - If you want a TARGET rifle in 22LR, here is the BEST deal going!!

http://www.thecmp.org/22targetsurplus.htm

Get the "Rusty" one!! I have had mine out at the Magnolia range a couple times and I know 7 others who have gone to Anniston and got one after shooting mine!! Was at the range this morning and 2 of the guys were shooting theirs at 200yrds ... Again, the BEST buy going for a 22LR target rifle!!
