You sure don't gain much speed in that 20" barrel do you?

Posting twist rates on each of the barrels would be helpful.SubGunFan wrote:Quick & Simple............. I post the pictures........... you ask the questions................

Colt SP-1 is 1:12
"Shortie" is 1:9 ( I think )
Also for reference...... The white pasters are 2.5" x 3".
Also to NOTE..... I feel the groups would have been smaller if I were using optics.
And last..... The point of aim was bottom center of the pasters.

Thanks SGF! Interesting data.
I'd have thought the 20" 1:12 would have produced tighter groups and I have no doubt that an optic would have closed them up. The FPS deviation was surprising given the difference in barrel lengths.

Re: 22RF Conversion for AR-15 INFO.............
I believe .22 rimfire reaches maximum velocity somewhere around 14-16". Anything longer and the friction starts slowing it back down. I've chronoed a long barreled Martini actioned .22 against a shorter barrels and seen noticeably lower velocity.
I would have figured the slower twist and longer sight radius of the 20" would have turned in significantly better groups than the fast twist, shorter sight radius shorty. Interesting stuff.

Re: 22RF Conversion for AR-15 INFO.............
What I think is the strangest results from my testing......... The Federal Champion ammo is both higher velocity and heavier bullet, yet this ammo jams MUCH MORE than the Remington Golden Bullet.
With the Rem. G. B. I have had some "light" firing pin strikes and a few dud rounds. But with MASS PRODUCED 22RF ammo, some duds are to be expected.
The Colt SP-1 has A1 sights which are worst than A2 sights... IMHO.

Dan, what all did you have to get to convert them (you didn't mention a brand). Who was your source? I took a glance at academy but the guy behind the counter looked like he couldn't give less of a s*** so I got what I was looking for and checked out.
The rifles ran in at about $500 on average. Would like to get the wife where she could run an AR. She's got a wheel gun cause the auto's I have have too many moving parts.
thanks
