Really excited... New barrel
Just for fun..
I have been asked to be among only three people to "beta" test a new third party barrel for the long out of production Dan Wesson 15-2 ( .357). Last night I recieved the newly made barrel and barrel nut. The other two testers have chronys, so I will be the only one without. Plans are to do as requested and just shoot the thing looking for any decrease in accurracy and for any problematic lead foulding (using un-jacketed as requested). Any tips, or ideas for evaluating this barrel appreciated. This barrel is 6" and does not include shroud.
By the way any of you DW shooters that need/want new barrel tools, barrel nuts, or even new sights .. I can hook you up.

I would want to find its leading point -- bullet size, bullet lube, bullet hardness, velocity, etc ...

I do think that is a concern/evaluation point he wants tested. Could you be more specific in the procedure? Currently, I only have access the 500 reloads(158gr hard cast SWHC/.38spl) I had made + 50 store round nose. Everything else is jacketed. I do not have written info on hardness, lube, or expected velocity.
hmmm?
Anyone want to trade some store bought .38s for some good well documented handloads? I do not reload myself (contrary to popular opinion.. its a pretty exacting skill and requires patience and discipline that wears thin on me after about ... 60 minutes).

Ahhhh the barrel finally arrived! This will be fun! Might like to be present when you do some testing if I am off work when you do!

Right now I am thinking of going out to the Rez range, saturday morning ... as soon as it opens before all the heat sets in! Come on out, and I'll even let you put some rounds through it if you like.
