XD Help

Got a used XD 45 about 6 months ago.

Previous owner did not shoot it much, couldn't get used to the fat grip.

I have shot it some (about 500 rounds).

Does ok at close range (15 yards or less), but is slightly low and left.
At longer range (20-25 yards) is hits 8-10 inches low and about the same distance left.
Shoots decent groups but consistently low and left. Has done this with other shooters as well.
Off a bench it also shows the same trend.

Tried to move the rear sight with a gunsmith buddy of mine, but would not move at room temp.
Guess it needed to be heated.

Any recommendations on what to do would be appreciated.

Do I need to sell it to someone with lower standards and get another 1911 to carry?

My standards are lower then a well diggers shoes. I'll give you $100 for it.

Have someone else shoot it before you give up on it.

I've had one friend shoot it. Will try to let one or two other guys shoot it. I may sell it, but will probably give it awhile yet.
Anybody heard about fractional front sights and more user friendly rear sights in the aftermarket world?

Your XD is defective...... Give it to me and I will put it out of it's misery with my fully functional XD .45!


But really..... When I first bought my XD I hit high & left. I read that hitting low & left is natural for most people the first time they use an XD. I imagine it has to do with the grip angle compared to other pistols. Accomplished shooters make the some complaint you do pretty often over on XD talk.

Springfield has one of the best CS in the gun biz. Let them look at it before you do anything.

Use the wheel first. then let somebody that has an XD run a few through it for good measure. if its still off, send it in.

Yep send the slide to SA and have yourself some dawson adjustables put on there and let her eat!! Fat grip chit man that is as slender as it gets abviously he has'nt held a glock lately!!

XD sights are ultra tight. You will mar your finish if you try to remove them with a punch, and you'll need a steel punch to do it. I changed my sights out to night sights and it is a pain in the arse. I'll never do it again. Its best to send it off and have springfield do it if you want to install new ones; but I think you were just trying to move the rear, right?

Chances are is that your problem caused by your hand. Guns don't change trajectory like that just because you move back a few yards. Try a vice type bench rest and different ammo and see if keeps doing what you've said. - before giving up on it.

Most low/left groups with the XD or XD(M) is caused when gripping the pistol, the design of the pistol causes the shooter to put the trigger directly in the first joint of the trigger finger. This causes two problems. The first problem in this is that the trigger finger is rubbing along the side of the pistol or touching the side of the pistol causing the barrel to move left and downward when the shot breaks. When the trigger is pulled, the finger is pushing the pistol to the left and low if it is touching the side of the pistol. The second is the trigger finger engagement of the trigger in this manner prevents a straight back squeeze of the trigger. This will occur even when firing the pistol from the bench. Try engaging the trigger halfway from the tip to the first joint of the trigger finger, or to put it plainly, centered on the first joint. This placement will move the trigger finger away from the side of the pistol and allow for a straight back squeeze of the trigger.

all new xd owners shoot low and to the left.....Your grip needs adjustment it is purely operator......Once you learn the proper sight alignment on that beast she'll blast all put before it.....Great gun take your time so you can enjoy it.....And hell yeah we all have lower standards when it comes to a Springer....are you kidding what kinda chit is that.....

I parted ways with my XD. Got a Kimber Pro Carry 1911.
The XD and I got a little better together over time, but I decided to go with the one that brought me. Couldn't justify having to practice that much with one pistol when I could shoot another model so much better. The Kimber is a mean piece of equipment!
