Norinco 1897

Post by mstrsippy on Thu Aug 05, 2010 10:24 am

Any one here have any thoughts on the Norinco 1897 pump. I have two Wincester 1897's that I have retired. I am thinking of picking up a Norinco for a shooter. I like the action on the '97, nothing makes the same sound. I grew up hunting squirrels with Dad and his old '97.

I bought one a couple of years ago when I thought I might do some cowboy shooting. I can't seem to drag my sorry hinney out of bed in time to get over there to shoot, though.

I have shot it a couple of times. It seems to work pretty good. I would guess if you want to hunt with it, you would need to get a screwin choke put in it. That short barrel probably would lack the ability to reach out and touch something of any distance. I have no idea if they are close enough clone for one of your original barrels to fit.

If we find a time when we are in the same area you are welcome to put a few rounds through it.

I wasn't actually gonna use it for huntin' just for blastin'. I was wondering about functionality. Will the thing shoot or just fall apart.
If it stands up to the SKS. AK, or the little browning 22 takedown copy I think it will probably be ok.

Seems solid. Nothing fancy, but plenty of fun.

The one I had was a bit gritty in it's action. Not like the originals I have used. Seems sturdy enough.

They seem to utilitarian enough for blasting. Of course as Doug said the Action isn't as smooth.

Well, I picked up a LNIB Norinco 97. Has had 10 rounds down the tube. The action seems to be smooth enough. Now if I can Find an 1887.
